1LE vs non-1LE - How noticable is performance?

For those of you that have upgraded your SS to a new 1LE. How much of a difference is there in performance with the gearing? I know track wise it is probably a no brainer, but I'm just wondering the feel with the 3:91 and different geared trans. I know it won't be the same, but I have been considering go to the 3:91 and just want to hear some of your thoughts. How much harder does it pull?

I've never ran 3.91's...but on my 4th gen (which also came with 3.42s)...moving to 4.30's and 4.56's made a tremendous difference for me. From a mathematical perspective, 3.91's only offer a 13% increase in torque multiplication. I'm sure you can feel the improvement in acceleration...but nothing like what the 4.30/4.56s offered.

I just dont want to lose drivablity. I don't drag the car much... maybe once or twice a year. What scares me is that I will do it and hate it. My brother and I surprized my dad a couple years ago and had 4:10's put in his mustang. I actually think that we slowed the car down because you have to shift so quick out of 1st gear. I know the gearing in our trans is completely different... I just don't want to make a mistake.

3.91's, TSP Longtubes, SWG Tune, Vararam, and a heavy foot

I think 3.91's would pull way harder in your car than a 1le. The 1le has different gearing in the MN6 transmission. The math has been done a few times on the forum. I am looking forward to finding out first hand soon!!

You are saying that the 1LE has a different transmission than the SS? Do you know them or have a link to them?

I know the gearing is different. There was a thread somewhere a while back comparing the standard SS trand to the 1LE. I will try and find it. If you just look at the specs on the 1LE vs the SS it stated the different gear ratio.

Im pretty sure the transmission is the same. The auto and manual are obviously geared different but that has nothing to do with a 1LE. AFAIK just the gear swap and suspension.

I don't think that is true. If I remember, the 1LE specifically has different gearing in the trans along with the 3:91 rear end.

The transmission is different than the standard SS. It is a close ratio manual trans. I don't have the ratios in front of me but if I have time later I will look it up and post it here for you.

Thanks Comrando, you have a much better representation of the information than I had.
