2011 Camaro SS/RS MPD1 Spoiler Install

Krissy and I installed the MPD1 spoiler on the new Camaro...yeah I know, it didn't take long to start modding the new SS.

The spoiler arrived from MPD1 about ten days after ordering it. It was prepainted and very well packaged. The fit of the spoiler is great....it flows very well with the lines of the car and the gaps/tolerances are tighter than stock (but not to the point where there is any contact between the spoiler and the car). There was a slight problem with one of the holes in the spoiler lining up...but a Dremel quickly solved that problem. There were two small defects in the paint, but they were microscopic and I am confident that most people probably wouldn't even be able to locate them. In terms of looks, I think it's the best looking spoiler for the 5th Generation Camaro. We had several people stop by in the neighborhood that were complimenting the car and the new spoiler. One of them was quite a nice compliment from a neighbor's father in law who owns a very nice M3.

Anyways here is a write up that I feel sure would cover any spoiler install, but it is specifically for the MPD1.

Please start with a freshly washed vehicle...it makes for better "before" pictures.

Start by opening the trunk and removing the eleven push pins and the trunk latch cover.



This will allow the trunk liner to fall free, but you still have to slide the emergency trunk latch through the liner.



Then remove the four rubber covers to reveal four 10 mm nuts.


Here is one of the center nuts.


These two pictures show the outer two nuts on each side of the spoiler.





This is the way I used to remove the nuts to help make sure that I didn't lose any inside of the trunk lid. Having two sets of hands is definetly recommended here.


After removing all six of the 10 mm nuts, there will still be a push pin holding the spoiler in place. With some gentle pressure and compression of the pin, the spoiler should seperate pretty easily.

The hardware supplied from MPD1. The plastic pieces are for Camaros that do not have a factory spoiler with predrilled holes. There are six screws, locking washers and seals.

The seals were applied to the spoiler and it was put on the car for a test fit.




At this time, you can go ahead and attach the spoiler to the car with the supplied screws. Depending on the fit and finish, you may have to use a Dremel tool to help make sure that all of the screws line up correctly.



Stand back and admire the work...

When I do the install on these i like to use clear silicone instead of the round gaskets to keep the spoiler as flush as possible.

I have to say i was never a big fan of anything bigger than the stock spoiler, but that does look good. Gives a bit more of a mean look to the car.

Any clear silicone will work.

BTW I see a Firehawk there. I owned a 93 Formula Firehawk in 97 that I got with 1400 miles on it. The engine was modded quite a bit on it, I think it was #186 out of 200 built. Cool car, but horrible build quality.

Thanks Eric, yeah the Hawk is my baby....2002 1LE car that just turned 50K. She was my hole in the ground to pour money into before we got the SS. CCW's, StopTech, Moser, Spohn, Corsa, American Racing LT's, and a pretty nice sound system have helped me make this car into the way it should have come from the factory.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for posting these instructions....

installation was a breeze and I probably would not have noticed the push pin and would have been pretty frusterated and eventually pulled out the hammer and chisel to bust the old spoiler off....
(not really, but you get the idea.)

one note.... only 5 of the 6 holes lined up which was close enough for me....

note #2.... during installation be very careful not to cross thread.... use an old time regular screw driver so you have better control on the torque.... no cross threading!
