Im talking about a simple pipe to replace the muffler. Dont need new tips and the extra's that SLP slips in.

We had a custom fully mandrel bent stainless exhaust done on our '69 SS Convertible from headers back that even goes up and over the rear axle for under $300 (not including the hooker mufflers). A good exhaust shop that does mandrel bending will easily be able to bend those two short section of pipes and attach them and have them look even, etc.. I know the shop we go to (I have used him for every vehicle I have owned and my Dad has since he was younger) has REASONABLE prices.. I know I'm lucky to know of a shop that doesn't charge you more than they should but I still feel bad for people paying $200 to do something like this. In my opinion from all the exhaust work I have had done on over half a dozen vehicles, I feel you should be able to have this muffler delete and striaght pipe done at a shop for no more than $100.

So yes, if I had to personally spend $200 to have this done, I would go with 2 mufflers for that price to give it a more refined sound, but since it is a job that should be able to be done for $100, it is definately an inexpensive way to make the car sound a bit better.
hay pm me that shops number im in west palm ill take trip to have the work done

I just got my mufflers cut off today, and installed the pipe with the stock tips at the muffler shop. I must say I am VERY happy with the sound. I couldn't ask for anything more. It sounds like it should now. The best part about it is it only cost me 108.65. Thanks to all who posted on this matter. If you are considering doing it you WON'T be disappointed. Beats spending 600.00 and up for a cat back that doesn't sound any better. No drone. Thanks again. Camaro 5 rocks!

I ended up paying about $250 because I bought new tips. I decided it would be easier to keep the stock tips on the ends with the mufflers incase I wanted to go back to stock later. But yeah, $108 is a good damn deal.

I just added a K&N Cold Air Intake, and with the muffler delete, it just sounds awesome. Granted, I have a V6, but now it's sounding almost like a V8 lol, and not like a ricer-ish Honda

No it won't affect CA smog as long as you don't remove the cats. Only time muffler change or delete would be an issue would be for increased sound level.

That's not necessarily true. Even though I did the muffler delete + straight pipes, here it is straight off the DMV CA VC...
I'm pretty sure it's illegal in the state of California to remove the mufflers completely lol, but ya, since the cat isn't touched, you'd prob still pass smog.

I lust did this mod on my SS last night before i even checked the this forum. It's a great mod! ... the sound clip is pretty good < but doesn't give it justice. it sounds really good in person.!!
when driving at 1500-1800 rpm you are barely louder then stock< but when u open it up it really comes alive. I think its one of the nicest sounds for current gen camaros.
I weighed the mufflers and they were about 17.5 lbs each ( with tips on) ... on a canadian car (don"t know if that makes a difference on smog components).
It cost me $40 for 2 - 2.5" dia. U bend pipes with 5" rad. and a 14" straight section on each end of bend. and it took about an hour for the complete re and re (welding included)
I will post pics later.

Well I just had this done on my LS3 camaro. It sounds great at start up and reving but do you guys notice drone in the cabin whne driving around 2000 to 3000 rpm's? I had the shop install new ss 4" tail pipes but the inlets were 3", so they had to use 3" piping. Maybe I'm just not used to the loudness of not having any mufflers at all but I'm wondering if the drone from 2000 to 2700 rpm is just in my head ar not. Have any of you folks expereinced this?

If drone is a problem, there's always this solution:

Or maybe this one modified/adapted to fit the application:

I love custom exhaust shops.

Yes....it's normal. I hear it more in the 1700-2000 range. It's not just with the muffler delete but with a lot of other systems as well.
