aftermarket prices are insane!

I'm checking out all of the aftermarket performance stuff. The pricing on most of these things are insane. Especially some of the cat back systems. Also headers are pretty out there. I know that because of the stainless materials it will cost a little more, but even then it's crazy. I've seen over $1200 for some of the cat back systems. I'm leaning towards the dynomax ultra flo catback, it's the closest to reasonable for what you get. As for headers, all of the longtubes are over the top expensive. I'll have no choice but to spend there. I've seen some people on here excited that some of these products are a certain price, which to me is indicative of how crazy things have gotten in the car enthusiast hobby. What a shame. Most complete intake to full exhaust setups are over $3000, that used to get you some serious parts.

I dunno..depends on if you budget and use some of the venders on here.. I'm putting BBK headers with 1 3/8 primaries.. on the smaller side yes, but only in the 700 dollar area.... If i was just trying to get a good tone i'd go for a muffler swap and / or a resonated x-pipe.... JMHO

Gotta pay to play.

But seriously this car is still very new, prices won't come down for another couple years as the fab starts to subside.

They are running the Corvette based motor...it will always be more $$ than normal. Prices will not drop much if any at all.

Buy used it you want something cheaper.

Yeah it is a real-real-real expensive hobby, but not everyone wants to soak SS owners... Barton is one example. When his short shifter came out, he probably could've charged $250+ for it, but he didn't. He charged $200. When it became super popular, he probably could've jacked the price up, but he didn't. I think after he recouped his costs, he reduced the shifter price to $175. There's always going to be two ways to run a business: you can extract every last penny of profit out of your customers or you can figure out a way to turn a decent profit while still doing right by your customers. Nothing wrong with the first way but I'd rather deal with the guy who runs their business the second way.

Part of the issue here is the cost of metals on the commodity market. If you haven't noticed the price of steel has bee through the roof for the last 3 years.

It's all a question of what you want to do and how good a job you want done. The good shops know it's a repeat business kind of thing, so they don't gouge you and instead give you a great deal so you'll come back for more, as the HP monkey on your back grows hungrier.

It is the same everywhere. Aftermarket prices on the Duramaxes have gone through the roof as well.

I did'nt mean to sound like a newbie who's out of touch, but i've been building cars for 16 years. Mostly older stuff, but even considering everything including inflation, it's still way over the top. Just my 2 cents. I'm still gonna spend the dough as there are'nt many options, but i'll be damned if i'm going to turn into one of those singing the praises of how much of a bargain one of these systems is.
