It's actually law in most states for funeral processions to have the right-of-way.

I thought it was against the law to not stop? They taught us in Driver's Ed that you're supposed to pull over for a funeral procession.

You're right.

I'm sure Tennesseans are nice - at least the ones you saw were following the law!

Here in Victoria Texas they get a police escort while shutting down intersections. I always pull over and so do my fellow Texans.

This may be the law, but I think it goes above and beyond when people on two lanes and even four lanes on the opposite side of the road take the time to pull over when they don't have to. The law only says give right away to the funeral procession, which would be through stop signs, red lights, etc. This law does not pertain to oncoming traffic. I think it could just be a southern thing too.

Had a few processions in Cali where we pull over to side of the road for them to pass. The police usually stop all traffic intersections for them to pass.

In NY, you're lucky if drivers don't disrupt the funeral procession.

Nope. Here in CA, most people already can't drive let alone follow the law. I've seen people HONK at the long procession lines. Just simply WOW

Used to not see People Pull over, but... i do see it alot more in my area now.

In the little town in South Eastern Mo where my parents grew up,

every one did it ~. Even people not in a car, ( guy on lawnmower ) ~

Usually ours have police escorts that will go and stop traffic and such.

We do this as a sign of respect to the deceased and his or her family. Men take their hats off. It is such a wonderful show of respect. It's such a sentimental act of kindness in a world of chips on everyone's shoulders and "what do I get out of it" society.

I wonder if this is a tradition in our area or do other states do this as well?
In this age when people have lost respect for others, it it good to hear about people still doing simple things like this to show respect. I only wish people would put others ahead of themselves in all situations. There is just too much of people being in too much of a hurry to be concerned about anyone but themselves.
