you mean canned tuners. Diablo and SCT. if you can program your self (well you wouldnt be asking this question if you did because you would have learned on one). HP or EFI Live. dont bother with the rest. A data logged tune is better and a wide band o2 data logged or dyno tune is best. For the price id do a Dyno tune.

I suggest a good mail order tune instead of just a canned tune. Search for someone like Jannetty Racing who has done hundreds of Camaro mail order tunes. You buy the programmer from him and he gives you a free tune.

I just recently got a SCT X3 tuner from jannetty racing. I love it! Ted tuned the car that have a noticeable and safe tune. I still yet have to data log and send him more information to get the most out of it, but by far go with a jannetty tune from sct

I'm gonna jump in here as well. If you want something simple and easy to use with great benefits you should check out our Pfadt Performance Tune - or just ask people here, we have sold many to Camaro5 users. Essentially we take care of all the hard stuff for you. We get you an awesome tune with advanced drivability features. It is super simple to install (less than 30 mins), and you aren't left with a programmer that you are highly unlikely to use if you aren't very "techy." If you want more horsepower & torque, Advanced Throttle Control (removes the factory throttle lag) and Pfadt Torque on Demand (more Torque distribution through the power band), give me a call and I can set you up. There are a lot of guys out there who can benefit from our tune. It's not just about how much power you make but how it is transferred from your foot to the ground.

IMO if you're not going to have your car dyno tuned and end up with a mail order tune then I would want a handheld programmer. You can use them for data logging and Check Engine scanning/clearing. There has been a time or two when I would've liked to have a handheld for data logging and CEL clearing and didn't have one.

I wouldn't use anything but HP Tuners if I were you. The downside to that is, you either have to spend a bunch of money up front, but you get to always mess with your tune for free, or you have to find someone that knows how to use the software and know LS motors and you'll pay them a fee every time.
Still, HP Tuners from my past experiences(2 GTO's), is the best software for tuning a LS engine. |
