Engine cover paint question
Ok so I purchased a V8 engine cover off another member here so I can do a paint project with it.
The question I have is, how have you guys/gals who have painted your covers evenly paint it with the raised "Chevrolet" letters over the fuel rail sections. I want to be able to evenly paint the silver area, plus add some "unannounced extra details" Is it best to use rattle cans or brush it on? Any advice would be appreciated.

Definitely use rattle cans. Using a brush would leave brush marks all over your engine cover. Scuff it with some sandpaper just do give the paint something to stick to. Next you want to wipe it all down very good with a cleaner/degreaser. Paint thinner will work if you don't have anything else. After that you can either spray an adhesion promoter(some guys swear by this) or can begin spraying the color. Hit it with a light even coat first. Then once it starts to set up go back and add heavier even coats. Make sure to spray from all sides around the raised lettering to make sure that you don't have any of the silver showing through. After the paint dries, then you can go back and use a paint pen from a hobby store to go over the raised letter in a different color if you would like. Don't waste your time trying to mask off the raised letters first. It would take forever and be nearly impossible.

I used rattle cans. Sanded everything down, wiped off with IPA, taped off the black parts, and just sprayed a few coats of base and a few coats of clear. Had to touch up the area where the oil cap sits though.

Nice job with the color . . . now go to ReflectiveConcepts.com and pick up some detailing for the V8 and Chev lettering for 20 bucks! Sets it off nice. Would send my photos but don't see how.

So I just ordered a ton of stuff from expresspaint.com:
2 - 11 oz rattle cans of IBM 1 - 11 oz rattle can of SWM 1 - 11oz. Clearcoat 1 - 11oz. Primer 1 - 11 oz. Bulldog Adhesion Promoter 1 - 13 oz. Wax & Grease Remover 1 - 3M Combo Sand Paper (2000,1500,1000,600 grits, 4.5"x5.5" each) Masking Tape 1 - Premium Tack Cloth 2oz. Compound 10 pairs of latex gloves some extra "stuffs" for the raised chevy letters and the V8 slot. All of it should be here later this week so sometime within the next few weeks I'll post pics of the finished product.
