no source. Both MotorTrend and Car and Driver have articles on the Z/28 in the June mags. Car and Driver has some rather blah performance numbers they are estimating for the car. Top end in low 170's and 0-60 @ 4.2 seconds. Not sure where they are getting these numbers. They say they are estimates but quote Stielow in the article.

In the March 2013 article of Motor Trend, they guesstimated the C7 base price at $59,000... we now know they over-estimated by $8,000 (sans dest fee). So if MT's crystal ball prediction & formula applies maybe, just maybe... the Z/28 can base sticker at $55K?? But even if they were 50% over, or 4K over, so... how about 59K?? All speculation but we'll see how accurate MT is when GM eventually reveals the Z/28 actual msrp digits!

If the 170 mph top speed is correct, and I hope against hope that it is correct, then the enthusiasts have the final and ultimate proof that this is a no compromise track car.

Trackrats understand with crystal clarity. Top speed numbers are utterly meaningless except to magazine induced mental masturbators. Just like 1/4 mile and 0-60 times. Useless information for use on track.

Give me a close ratio gearbox that allows the engine to pull like a locomotive in every single gear, and that allows me to be in the right gear for every corner, that is what I want. Not a top-speed numerical compromise meant to appeal to the unthinking sheep.

170 mph top speed: Please, please let it be true...

Ok...I'll play the straight man here....lol...You hope it's true, it's proof it's a great track car....But yet, Top Speed is meaningless.....The top speed is appealing only to unthinking sheep, yet it's proof of a great track car and you hope it's true....ok....whatever....lol....

Huh?

What he says makes perfect sense for a road course car....

200 MPH means nothing if the longest straight only lets you get to 170.

ok...lol...just struck me as odd that what was called meaningless is hoped to be true...sure it may never go that fast as tracked, but it's should be good news on the top speed, not meaningless, yet proof of something hoped for...???....Sounded a little confusing was all...

It's as much gearing as it is power when going for top speed. I'll take the car with the proper usable gearing over top speed ANY day!

Think gearing.

Hint: what's the Vette's top speed?
