oil question

last time i got an oil change my machanic put in a 7500 mile synthetic blend oil. He said its good for 7500 miles and when im there ill get my tires rotated and get everything done at once. I just brought the car there put about 5000 miles since my last oil change and my oil life was at 20%. i decided to go back to the regular oil change

do you think the 7500 synthetic blend is good? or stick with regular oil?

The LFX engines are fine with a an approved dex blend, however, theres no harm in using full synthetic and lots of people recommend it over the blend to prevent additional wear and tear. Honestly though, you NEED to check your oil at-least every other fill-up. I do this religiously on my SS and all my cars, have never needed to add oil between changes on the SS, but still, i would rather know ASAP that the oil was being consumed so i could take it in to a shop and also to be able to keep it topped off. Waiting until 5k miles to check the oil just seems waaay too risky for me. Just my $.02

13,504 miles on our 2SS the last oil change using Mobil 1. I did change the oil filter at 50% with the needed make up oil of approx .5 qt. I got my oil analysis back and the oil still had life left. I will be posting my results soon with a narrative.

The high mileage oil is good as long as it doesn't take 3 years between oil changes.

no i dont wait 5000 miles to check my oil i check it every time i wash my car, every week every other week. the oil level was fine i was just wondering is it safe to run the oil life down to 0%? i had 20% left with still 2500 miles to go until my "due" milage for an oil change

should i trust my oil life % or go by the miles?

i check my oil to make sure im not short just want to know if its safe to go 7500 miles between oil changes?

oh an i have the LLT

I'll just add my take as I tear these down and build them often. NO oil except full synthetic!!! Blend is not good enough contional the motor will not last. The design of the dual overhead cam timing chains & VVT require the best syn period, no matter what GM or your dealer tell you.

FWIW, I'm changing over to Amsoil. Have a club member that's a distributor so get a little break on the price.

I'd recommend staying away from blends, why cheap out on your multithousand investment for a few bucks an oil change.

Listen to the people that open these engines for overhauls and performance builds, like the shop above SC2150 he has good insight that most don't.

AMSOIl was the first in synthetics and remains highly innovative when it comes to lubricants
