What should I get?

So I was planning on doing headers but with me not working so much from baseball. So I got offered a brand new SLP cold air inductions kit for only 200. It sells we for 300. I am leaning towards the cold air and the headers over the summer.

If it's the one with the scoop on the bottom of the car I've never been much of a fan. It scoops a lot of dirt and debris up from down there. Just my $0.02

I wouldn't worry about scooping anything up, especially since it's not one that hangs low. Personally, I am going with a Super Sucker ram air setup at some point. It's plastic and actually scoops from the bottom rather than trying to gather it midway up by the condensor.

To be honest, you can get a lid for <$100, the bellows is worthless, and oiled filters aren't worth the grime they create on the MAF sensor. Perhaps just get a lid, do the free ram air, and get long tubes -- that is, if you want a measurable increase in power for your money spent.

Alright thanks guys! Another thing, I plan on doing headers and the y pipe before I swap out my exhaust. Would it be best to wait and do it all at once? Or do my headers and y pipe and then whenever I get my exhaust put it on?

You can do the headers and y-pipe without doing a catback. You could always keep your factory catback and install a cutout. That way you'll have nice and quiet through your neighborhood -- then nasty loud on the highway.

That's what I am looking for may buy some new tips though.

All of the cat backs should fit as most Header/Y combos are designed to connect the stock cat-back. So you can do it in any order you like.

I did cat-back, LT's/Y, cat-back, and then another cat-back. The last one was just swapping out the resonator on my LM1 for a magnaflow bullet though.

Yes, you might find like xXSilencerXx and myself have found in the past that you'll go through different catbacks until you find a sound you like.

My '01 Z28 and my current '02 SS have already been modified by the previous owners with a Flowmaster muffler welded in to the stock exhaust. I ran a Loudmouth (the original -- before one could swap the resonator) on the '01 Z28. I ran a GMMG on my '00 SS and then swapped to a Loudmouth.

I totally agree with Steve.
-I bought my SLP lid for 50.00 local.
-I remember back in the day that dyno testing showed 1, maybe 2 rwhp for a K&N filter over a Fram. Not to mention an over oil'd air filter will play havac with your MAF, as Steve stated, and if you have a 4L60E transmission, it will eventually make it start acting funny.

Just get a set of long tubes and a ypipe with a lid and the free ram-air mod and you'll be good to go. I know Cal speed and performance has a set of stainless steel 1 3/4" long tubes for 250. Might want to check them out.

Oh yea I can vouch for that whole over oiled filter messing with the MAF situation. Maf got messed up and the MoFo wouldn't shift. Cleaned it up, switched back to paper and have been golden since.
