Matte Black Paint or Wrap Advice
I have a 2012 Camaro SS and I have been looking into painting it or wrapping it matte black. I only have a budget of about $600 right now but can save up to about $1000 within the next few months. Does anyone have recommendations for people who can do this in the Tampa Bay area? Thank you for all input.

Dip will come in around 400 for the whole kit to do it yourself and have materials to do car twice.
Wrap averages around 2-4k depending on the shop. Paint paint depends on prep work but 3-6k ish. |

I don't think 1k is going to be enough for a quality wrap.
My buddy tried pushing me to go to Majestic Print Inc. They are located in Seminole, Pinellas County. The guy there who does the wraps is named Walter Hawk: 727-954-4521. Do they do good work? I have no idea. But he swears by them for his motorcycle wraps.

Like coldfuzion said, you can buy a kit from dip your car that'll be below your budget as long as you have somewhere that you can spray it.

+1 on the 'spray-dip.' There's a guy here in San Angelo who spray-dipped his whole car (2010 Red Hot SS) to look like a WWII P-40 War Hawk (shark teeth, etc.). After he got tired of that look, he just peeled it off - back to the factory red paint... no worries. I'm sure he's done another cool 'paint job' since then as well.
Get an HVLP gun from Harbor Freight rather than the rattle cans, though - you won't have nearly as many 'zebra stripes' as a result. |

This. Your budget, even at $1000, isn't going to be enough for a quality wrap, let alone paint. If you want it sooner rather than later and keeping the same budget, order a dip kit. Dipping gets a bad wrap (no pun intended) but when it's done right, it's actually not bad at all. It's the ricers who give it the bad name, making their hoods matte black on a civic hatch with rust holes in the fenders and straight piped exhaust. If you don't feel comfortable doing the work yourself, you could still fit the supplies and labor in your budget. Good luck!

For better or worse, I paid $700 for this custom flag wrap. A full car generally runs about the same as paint - $1500-$2500 depending on material and expertise. Don't skimp!

With that budget, I would dip the car. Just make sure you lay on enough coats! Ive had to remove a thin dip job before... NOT FUN.

Wrapping a car is not rocket science. In fact, with some google videos and practice, its not hard at all. Specially with relatively flat surfaces. I did about 3/4 of my F650 with an ARE bed camper on it. Yes it took a while but all i was out was my time and the cost of film. I say 3/4 because i ran out of time and had to pay someone to finish it for an out of town trip i needed to take it to. 75% of what I did i accomplished by myself using the wrap magnets to hold bigger sections in place. The installer even asked if i had ever done this before and couldn't believe it. he even said "dang, you already did the hard parts". That front end and dually fenders wereno easy task but the flat parts and slight curves are no issue. Buy your best buddy some beer and go for it. In the end, it will look a lot better than dip and you can always take it off later. I too considered having it painted instead flat black and everyone i talked to said that is the hardest paint to keep looking good. Every time you rub hard, it can introduce a slightly polished spot. I don't know how true that really is but i had a lot of people tell me that. The wrap is easy to maintain and you can always take it off.
good luck.
