1-4 Shift

I have had this 1-4 shift show up on my display between gauges a few times but am not locked out of shifting into 2nd like I have read others have experienced. Is this normal for a 2012 2SS?

Did you buy car new or used, if used maybe the previous owner installed a skip shift eliminator.

I bought it used. The previous owner upgraded the exhaust and suspension so it is entirely possible that a skip shift eliminator was installed. Is there a way that I can tell or is it merely a programming change?

The previous owner probably had the car tuned (due to the exhaust upgrade), thus tuning out the 1-4 shift lock out..

You can look at the tranny (under the car) to see if the eliminator is installed

See this thread..

If the message shows up but your not locked out, car is probably not tuned. When you tune out skip shift, the message will not show up. Unless a car has long tube headers, a tune is not required for an exhaust change. I can't see someone tuning a car and not tune out skip shift but run a skip shift eliminator harness.

This. If you get the message on your dash but the lockout doesn't occur, you have a skip shift eliminator.

I spoke too soon. Twice today it gave me the 1-4 message and I could not get into second. When I shifted into 4th, 4th started out at 600RPMs. Taking off in 4th at 600RPMs? Really??? Was someone drunk at GM?

GM did that to help you avoid the gas guzzler tax. It sucks but a $20 skip shift eliminator fixes it and saves you $2000. Blame Uncle Sam.

I read that installing a 2.2K ohm 1/2 watt resistor between the pins on the connector worked as well. Can anyone concur?

I'm guessing that the skip shift eliminator is just a resister with plugs to protect the connectors. I might still go that route just to retain a clean appearance.

This is your best route. The Skip Shift Harness is inexpensive, plug and play and everything is already though out for you. If you ask around or keep an eye out in the pay it forward thread, you could probably pick one up for the price of shipping. Lots started with the harness and no longer need it when they get a tune and have them laying around.

No need for a skip shift eliminator! You can do it for free, that little skinny pedal on the right... hit it harder from now on lol

Sent from the road.

Hit Chase and Apex up for their eliminator, it works great and is plug and play.

Until you get the SSE just keep the car in first till you hit 20 MPH then shift like normal.
You don't have to mash the gas or drive faster, just shift a little later.
But without the eliminator the 1-4 will still show up when you least expect it.( like driving block to block with traffic lights. )
