I don't know if this has been posted but I found it quite interesting. I'm a life long Mustang/Ford guy. I had a 64 1/2 when I was 17. Now I'm 45 & considering a 2SS 1LE.

Long time ford guy? Hmp...camaro must have really impressed you. Either car will be a good choice and your not going to be pushing them to the limit so any short comings of either will most likley not even be seen. If I were in your shoes id say pick the one you wouldn't mind driving for a few hors straight. I love my Z but its just not a car id want to have to drive for a long time.

Yeah I'm a long time ford guy. I also used to have a Pantera. The Camaro's rear suspension is what made look at it a few years ago. I didn't like the way the front end pushed so I stayed away. this new (to me) 1LE package caught my attention. I never leave anything even remotely stock suspension wise. The tranny/axle/wheel bearing upgrades can get spendy. Plus I think I could drive the car for awhile & not hate the way it handles. There really isn't any straight roads where I live.

Not rocket science. GM designed the 1LE to be faster. Ford didn't design the track package Mustang to be faster so much as they did to better withstand the abuse of the track environment through mostly modifications to the cooling systems.

If I was buying one car right now for under 40k and the 2014 Vette and 2015 Mustang weren't so close to make me wait, I would definitely go with a 1LE. In red. With the dual mode exhaust.

so many reviews, all with the same verdict. I'm glad I'm trading my 12 SS for the 13 1LE...being built next week!

Not rocket science. Gem Designed the 1LE to be faster. Ford designed the track pack to be 3 seconds slower.

I love long trips in my ZL1, but you're right, my 1997 Anniversary Edition....not so much.

Slower then what? The track pack doesn't add any new suspension components or different tires to an already in production since 2011 Brembo package. Ford left the stuff unchanged while Chevy knew they had to improve certain things to compete, and they far exceeded the bench mark set by the new GT 3 years ago when it comes to muscle car's place in the sports car market. They did a great job with the FE4 revision in 2012, and an even better job for 2013 with the 1LE option. Ford is at the end of the product cycle with the current platform (thank God). They could have easily matched the 1LE's performance, or certainly come close to it, just by going with different springs rates and shocks, bigger sways, and same tires that Chevy is using on the 1LE, but it makes no sense to release anything like that with the 2015 remodel on the horizon.

Lol what do you expect, the car with a log axle can't match IRS. Baffles me as to why Ford never made an IRS SVT Cobra for the S197 gen.

I venture to say the biggest difference maker in this matchup is rubber. The Camaro is sporting full race 285/35/ZR20s Supercar G tires, while the GT has basically a street tire with the Pirelli 255/40/R19 summer tire. I suspect with equivalent rubber this race would be much closer.

This, people seem to convienently forget the tire equation when it comes to track times and the HUGE differences they can make.
