This is all fine and dandy, but what about us OCD people who break a sweat and get nervous ticks as soon as our oil starts to change color

My oil change intervals are as much for my health as they are my engines.

If it's changing color it's doing it's job. That means it is holding the contaminates in suspenion. I go from 100% right down to 0% on the OLM our our 2010 SS which is right around 13,000 miles everytime. My wife commutes in the SS. I have the oil analyzed at each oil change only and it has always come back in great shape. Original Mobil 1 is what I use. Mobil 1 EP goes the distance just fine too but the analysis numbers are actually a tad better using original Mobil 1. I have proven every the feel good, specific mileage because that is what pawpaw/dada used to do or "just because I can and it makes me all tingly inside" oil change wrong. The OLM works perfectly for us SS owners. V6 owners should stick with a 5000 mile OCI no matter what.

On another note, I go 25,000 miles between oil changes on my Dodge/Cummins using a single full flow oil filter and using Amsoil AME 15w-40. I have oil analysis reports backing up my OCI and they have all come back that the oil was perfectly fine and could have gone further, which is exactly what I did on the past oil change. I went 76,000 miles and the analysis came back great.

I believe in its capabilities from personal use with oil analysis reports backing up my OCI's. Besides, I know more than most cut and paste Amsoil dealers which are at least 95% of them.

I use the OLM on my LFX and a Blackstone report came back all good as well. They also suggested a longer interval next time. TBN was fine as well. Mobil 1 and a NAPA Gold filter, no make-up oil.

Speaking of which, Blackstone does ask how much, if any, make-up oil was added during the interval.

While opinions may differ on exactly which lab to use for an analysis, just having one done is far, far better than the folks that rely on their "gut feeling" or do it the way ol' Dad taught us. Science trumps what Bubba at the service station says, folks.
