Looking for some knowledge from you Camaro owners
Greetings,
Well the last kid is almost gone and now it's time for the toys for Mom and Dad. Question....I'm looking at getting into a 14 or 15 Convertible SS. In reading some other threads, I saw their were some problems with water leaking/intrusion from some of the 11-13 models? Did GM fix the problem with the water runoff feature? Does the 14/15 have similar problems? And as a general question.... what are some of the potential problems to look for on the '14/'15' SS's? You may ask why only a '14 or '15 and not a '16 or newer? Well...I still have to pay for it as I'm not independently wealthy. I can get a better rate for a newer used vehicle if I decide to stay on payment schedule (i usually pay cars off within 1-2 years) but in case I decide to make minimum, well it'll be lower. Not a fan of the '16 model year anyways. Lastly, the wife may drive it from time to time and she'll like the larger nav screen for backing that came in '13 and newer. Any and all comments, questions, tips, things to look out for are appreciated. I've always received valuable advice from these forums. I do plan on keeping this vehicle for a while as it will only be a weekender, road tripper etc. Most of you seem to really know what your'e talking about, so bring it on. When I do buy it, which is soon, I'll post some pics. Thanks in advance Dempsey |

I own a 11 so I won't be able to give you much info on the 14-15 models but one thing you should do before buying is to make sure you inspect the top for any holes, rips or any kind of damage and also ask the seller if the car has any history of work done to it. I know gm fixed most of the problems by 12 or 13 so there shouldn't be many problems with 14-15.

I have the '15, bought it new and have had zero issues with the top or leakage.
Great choice, I actually like them better than the newer ones......don't like that they lost the gills on the 16 and up models. Good luck!!

Become informed on the different options available for these years. Like 1SS vs 2SS, SS/RS or just SS. I have had no leaks on my vert and honestly no other issues.
I would suggest from your comments to get your car as loaded as possible, you will enjoy it more, especially the HUD ( heads up display). Good luck with your choices.

Most of the problems were from '11 & '12
with a '14 or '15 you should be ok... as others have stated inspect the top for worn areas, tears, holes etc...and possibly do a water test on the top.. Good Luck Driving a coupe= Ok Driving a Vert= PRICELESS!!! |

I have a 2015 2SS... I got a GREAT deal on it and there are still new 2015 out there. Just find a dealer who's willing to work with you. Even if you have to spend $400 for airfare to save $15k, might be worth it.
I only have 2500 miles on mine and have not had an issues with mine. I love the ride and everything else that goes along with this car. My ONLY complaint is that for a v8, it's very quiet. If you want that "muscle" car sound, then that's an entirely different topic. Good luck with you search. joe...

Thanks all....I didn't know the water problem was limited to the earlier models. Learned something new today. Makes me feel better about going with the convertible.
I did go test drive a couple and the wind noise was at a minimum. The salesman let me take it on the freeway and get it going, like up to maybe 95 or so mph and it was fine. Looks like now i just have to find my color scheme, low mileage and priced correctly. Dealing with car lots is about as fun as going to the dentist. Keep the tips coming. Have a great Holiday season. |

Winter time is the perfect time to be buying a convertible! The closer you get to the end of the year, the deeper the discounts will be. Good luck in your search. These Gen5 convertibles are a blast. I've owned two of them.

I have a '13 built 12/12 and have had no water issues. As mentioned, this was resolved sometime by the end of the 12 model year.

In the perfect world, the ashen gray or the GM dark blue would be my picks. I just don't see any around. I saw some older model dark blue '11/'12 years, nothing in '14/'15. I'm guessing that color is a direct order type color. So what I've seen available in my range and needs is narrowed to Red or that Burgundy Red. Black and Yellow are out. Although they look really nice, I've owned to many black cars and it's frustrating to keep clean. White is a distant 3 rd pick. Im checking a couple out this weekend.

Good point - OP you may want to try one with the factory NPP Dual-Mode exhaust option (quad tip), sound is very aggressive, makes a huge difference
