I have a question about torque....
Okay, so the new ZO6 is putting out close to 650HP and 650lbs-ft, all from a 1.7L supercharger (9.5psi). The new Dodge Hellcat is putting out about 700HP and 650lbs-ft, all from a 2.4L supercharger (11psi).
I'm running a 2.9L supercharger (7-8psi) and I make about 630HP and 565lbs-ft. All three motors are 6.2L V-8's. Is my torque so much lower because I'm not spinning my supercharger anywhere near the RPM that the Corvette and Challenger are? Reason indicates that by spinning the blower faster (overdriving it), it builds boost that much faster. Is that what accounts for their generous torque output? Thanks in advance for the education. |

A lot of it is rotor design, and to some extent, blower speed. For example, I'm running about 545HP, but the same torque you are, with a 2.3L Maggie. I'm above 500lb/ft at 2500 rpm. If they are using eaton rotors, this would be similar to what I have.

i would say I am not sure your tq is so much lower. you are quoting crank numbers vs your rw numbers. once they are on a dyno you'll have a better comparison.

The faster you spin it the more torque is available because higher air flow is available at peak torque. You have the Opposite situation you have a large blower that you are spinning slow. Ted.

Another big reason is cam design/systems. Both of those cars have adjustable cam timing which can add a ton of mid/low range torque.

Is there a preference between a screw type supercharge or roots rotor type?
