PlanetLSX's Project Z2010

As we have some big plans for this car, we feel that it deserves its own project thread. You may recall our debut article on the car, found here:

http://www.planetlsx.com/vehicles/Pr..._Camaro_SS/115

Well, we have our first update article...unfortunately, it's not full of cool parts and performance gains; quite the opposite! Enjoy -

Stay tuned for our MGW shifter install/review!

In person? That would be a feat, it hasn't left its garage in Texas for a week!

Sorry to read about your driveshaft. Considering all the threads on here about transmission output shafts, and a couple on driveshafts, do you think launch control is the culprit???

Wheel hop is the culprit. The bolts, which may not have been fully tight, as suggested by the slight ring of fatigue around the edge of the bolt, snapped under shock loading. Launch control was not designed for use on a sticker than normal street surface; it was designed to haze the tires by maintaining a rear tire speed slightly higher than the fronts, to in effect ride the line between all out spinning and bogging. When your road surface is sticker than the average street, as is the case with some of our warm concrete streets in Houston, or a VHT prepped track surface, you run a higher risk of wheel hop, however you launch the car. I have it on good authority - Launch control should not break this car if used correctly.

In sum, don't use launch control on sticky surfaces, and make sure all your driveshaft bolts - front and rear - are tight. I would recommend 120-130 ft-lbs, even though dealer specs are 100.

Car turned in front of me because people in lanes left of me stopped to let him. I was driving minding my own business and that guy pulled in front. I was doing about 35 and had maybe 2 cars to stop. T-boned the Tacoma and put him on his side. Just didnt' have time to stop :(

His turn has no "right of way" as there is no light, no yield. Terrible way to end Kat's (SSRSLY's) birthday :(
