valve spring retainer!

This weekend my valve spring retainer decided to give way and shoot the valve down into the head on #4 ext. cylinder. I havnt got it torn down far enough to see if the head is ruined, but it dosnt look to pretty as of now :(

how many of yall have had this similar case?

What kind of power are you making and what kind of rpm's are you revving too.

im at 570 to the wheels, and am only pushing 5psi. I got the rpm's set to 6100. But, it gave up just driving home at about 2500 rpm's.

That sucks are you using stock or aftermarket retainers?

it was aftermarket springs and retainers, they were the lunatis. It was deffinatly a sad day!

Probably wasn't seated all the way or they used those soft non hardened locks. I had that happen to me one time. It was a nasty mess. Learned my lesson, don't use cheap shit (aimed at me, not you)

I feel you, its deffinatly the start of a big mess. But i will be deffinatly changing some things inside of the engine to make sure it dosnt happen again.

most of the time when this happens there isnt much you can save,

this is one of the main reasons why I'm afraid of getting on my Maggie car now in days. I'm still running stock valvetrain parts so I don't know how durable they really are. so far so good.... but then again, I hardly ever beat on my car.

I felt like mine was going to last, but i guess i was wrong. I did some research, and the factory valve terrain on the LS3 and L99 both have some room for improvement. There is quiet a few cases where this has happened.
