2LT needs 6 quarts with filter. Look in the back of your owners manual if you want to see it in black and white.

Before my first oil change at 1600, I read several other entries about noticeable change. While I didn't run any quarters or speed tests before the first change, I will tell you the Cami was more responsive after that oil change. I tend to go with the conspiracy theory that resetting the oil life indicator set off something else.
Definitely did not notice the same difference with my chevy P/U or 4Runner after their first oil change.

The oil is the lifeblood of the engine. The more you keep it changed the cleaner your parts are going to stay and thus work more efficiently. Hell when we race one of our cars on the weekend it gets an oil change whether it needs it or not. Not to mention we freshen up the motor every year. And the engine builder ask us why? Because the parts all look like brand new with hardly any wear. Change your oil as often as you like it wont hurt you car a bit. Its when you let it go and go and go and say that you will get around to it and never do till 10,000 miles later or more and youve developed sludge and metal robbing your engines life and horsepower. Oil changes are cheap next to part replacement. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

There is increased friction and particulates during the break in period as the engine mates the parts to each other. As the oil is circulated through the engine, the filter captures the particulates.
I also do not believe that oils such as Mobil 1 would provide such a low level of friction that break in would not occur.
Once the rings mate to the cylinder walls and the compression increases, as well as the the other engine surfaces, I do accept a performance increase, but not from a oil change.
I guess we have to have someone dyno before and after their first oil change, ideally, the same day.
i wouldn't recommend dyno pulls till after first oil change just to be on the safe side, but i get your point though

Changing the oil won't do anything. You're right there, but RESETTING the oil life monitor sure can, depending on if there's a line or two of code to do X when oil is changed >1500 miles. That's what I meant. Not some voodoo about pouring clean fluid down a hole.

I hope this helps.

I know this doesn't apply to the Camaro, but just food for thought about initial oil changes.

I have a 2004 Acura TL that I bought new, and Honda/Acura does not want you to change the oil until 5-7.5K miles. Their explanation: Oil additives from the factory that they do not want you to remove over that period of time. I'm not sayin' this is what GM does, but a different method from another group of engineers.

Add a TYPER sticker and you'll get 50 more

Can anyone confirm whether first oil change is triggering anything to the performance improvements felt? Or is it just one of those "illusions'? I will be doing my firdst chamge in a week or so...1300-1400 miles.

best

All you are doing is draining the old oil out, replacing the filter. There is absolutely NO concievable reason an engine would magically increase HP afterwards.

There is no sensor or secret switch that recalibrates the engine after an oil change.

Methinks it's like adding a K&N air filter or those octane boosters and people saying they are running 1-2 second quicker ET's.

Yea....right!
