Top enhancement

Had to drop off the car at the dealership for an issue with the drivers seat. It decided to spit out a few bearings from the power seat track.
They notified me of the two outstanding recalls for my car. Air bag and the top enhancement.
I told them to go ahead with the airbag reprogram, but I did not want them to do the enhancement. The service writer seemed surprised, said that it was strongly recommended to do it.
I told him I was on the fence that this really was the right fix. I'm not having top problems, rub marks, pinches or tears. And that I watch the Camaro forums and was reading mixed reviews on the "fix".
I said that I had till 2014 according to the recall to have the work done.
He mentioned that they have done this a number of times and had to replace several tops due to problems with the tops.
At seven months of ownership, nearly 6k miles, and a lot of top cycles.
Am I being overly cautious?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.....that's what I say. Mine had it done and it is slightly better on the one side, but still rubs on the other. I had them document it last time I was in for service, but if/when I need a new top, I'm gonna insist on the new mechanism as well.

I kind of agree. The OEM installation is the best.

I don't think so. I'm in the same boat as you...no problems with my top and I don't feel at all confident about the "enhancement" being the right or final fix for the top issue. Like you said, we have until 2014 to act on the recall.

No, not overly cautious at all. I totally agree with the thought "if it ain't broke - don't fix it". Document everything and you may actually be one of the lucky ones
