this sparks an age-old debate though on this site though. i'm to young to be able to have seen the original days of the camaro, but i recall a few members posts of how the SS was above the Z/28 as far as engine displacement is concerned. maybe a few more knowledgable members could chime in.

this sparks the beating of the dead horse though, everyones got their opinion on it.

The 67 68 69 Z/28's all had 302 engines rated at 285 HP which oridgenally were made to compete in the Trans Am series racing which had a restriction on cubic inches . And although the 302 was rated at 285 , don't you believe that for a minute , Chevrolet grossly under rated HP in those day's , all you have to do is look at the componet parts in this engine to see HP had to be way more than rated at , it was a very mighty mouse . that being said the SS's were no slouch's either , they came in 350 396 or 427 cubic inches which Chev. also under rated , So who was top dog in Gen 1 , hard to say they were all awesome cars , but the Z/28 was never the biggest or the most HP , but they were a very Mighty Mouse

It is always nice to see/hear clairvoyants in discussion about the future.....
While we are at it can you guys mull over the future of the unemployment rate in the US and whether or not the housing market will improve even more?

Probably your cousin violated the confidentiality agreement if he is leaking this and it's true.

Perhaps in the next couple years they'll offer the LS7 engine as an option in the SS, while keeping the LS3 standard?

I'm "young" and I agree. I see this thing getting me into enough trouble as it is. Any future higher performance model would fill a very small niche market segment of an already niche market.

The 302 DZ motor in the 1st Gen was also a RPM machine. They were designed to take high RPM and I don't think that they even came alive until around 4k RPM. That's why most have 4.11 gears.

I agree that it's hard to say which was the big boy back then (other than the COPO) and it would depend on what you wanted to do. For the most part the 396/375 was the typical street beast. Although I don't see how they ever got traction from stop light to stop light on those bias ply pizza cutters they called tires. I can't get traction today when I drop the hammer and I have 255s on 17x9 wheels.

BTW: SS came in 350/295; 396/325; 396/375 (no A/C)

Like having a ZR1 Vette, My nephew has a 05 Mustang Gt with 650 RWHP, so much that he can't put it to the road. I think the LS3 2SS is an aewsome car the way it sits, Might change the exhaust, might, just for a different note but thats about all the perforamnce mods for me, maybe in about 10 years, i'll think about mods, but who knows.

If you have it in your blood, it's never fast enough. You are probably too old!

Track; on the back roads near my area; who knows. That's a good question though. I just want something that's going to be faster, stock, than my '02 with it's limited mods'. Give me a car that'll get into the 11s, stock, and I'll be happy. I'll find somewhere I can use that power (safely)

I can't tell if this was just a play on the OP's words and you're kidding - or not. Just in case: Please be respectful

For the last time, we have confirmed many times over that the LS7 will not be in any other cars and is on its way out very shortly. We need a smiley for this, as it is becoming another "not the real headlights".

is it really a question of speed... or power? As stated, you can never have too much power *until you break say 800hp I'm sure it all feels the same* but even if you only ever drive the car to 65mph, the raw power makes a difference with the overall driving experience IMO.

I have an El Camino with a mildly built 350. , 4-speed and 3.73's and at first it felt hella powerful but it slowly became routine and I was use to the power and now "must have more.. power". BUT after not driving it for about 14 months *blown rear end* it feels quick again

anyhow.... back on topic...

could be true, likely not... v8 will never die, even if it ends up a shell of its former self, it still sells cars/trucks... all hail the SBC!!
