Who's watching the Olympics?
I saw the qualifying of the men's ski long jump. It's enjoyable, but quite possibly the least athletic event in these games.(I'm really kidding, I'd love to try that one day, not gonna happen)
The Slope Style snow boarding is interesting. Instead of a bouquet of flowers for the guys on the podium they get a bouquet of pot leaves.(America brought home gold here btw) But the Luge is impressive. These guys ride on their back on a thin piece of fiberglass with a couple of razor blades on the bottom of it going nearly 90 mph. I look forward to the Skeleton as well, like Luge but on their stomachs. Downhill skiing always wrecks my nerves. Those people are hauling butt too. I hate seeing wipe outs there.

Amazing, not one person. I'll talk to myself then.
Skiatholon, there's a sport. The men's final had them cross country skiing for nearly an hour an twenty minutes. I can't even imagine going the twenty minutes anywhere near their pace let alone a long time like that. Impresses me.

The coverage is absolutely horrible. NBC needs to give up the rights or partner with somebody to bring better coverage.

I'm holding out for the curling. No idea why but, that friggin event just sucks me in, especially if it's women's curling. A lot of those girls are really beautiful!

I'm watching. Just too many commercials like ever other thing on TV. Otherwise, fun to watch.

Anyway, even thought the American and Canadian ice dancing teams outscored the Russians in the ice dancing portion of the team figure skating event, the Russians really shined and entertained from the stand point of this lay person. I'm no expert or judge, like I said they didn't get first in that portion, but I was just impressed with their showmanship. I'm sure it's on www.nbcolympics.com somewhere, it's worth a look I think.

I agree with them having too many commercials. I know they have to pay the bills. A few Olympics ago I read that NBC pays so much for the rights that they don't actually recover that money in advertising. They just hope to gain long term exposure for it.
That being stated, this afternoon I too was flipping between the Olympics and Austin Powers.

Just watched down hill skiing. Never watched that event before, watching them do 70 plus was crazy.

I have watched it all, NBC and NBC sports. Coverage is horrible, as usual. I wanted to medal in the women biatholon, so close, feel so sorry for her.
For anyone who has put a lot of time, commitment and sacrific into training, and to get so close and not make it, just hard. I have, and can always side with whoever goes out and gives it every last bit of energy. I may not be on that level, but I know what it's like to give it everything you have and push beyond your limits. |

I find this interesting. Jenny Jones won the first medal in a snow event for Britain. She won the bronze in Slopestyle snowboarding.
Their snowboarders, maybe skiers too, train on dry slopes that are described as similar to astroturf. I understand they don't have all that much in the way of snowy mountains themselves, just wondering, and I realize money is a factor, that they don't take the train right over to mainland Europe to the mountains for training.
