Shift- read the responses, it's a GM thing to get away from the gas guzzler tax. I bought a skip shift eliminator but never installed it because I just run 1st gear out farther.

I just run 1st gear out a little longer until the indicator on the DIC goes away b4 I shift into 2nd. I also found that if you move the shifter out of first and wait a few seconds you can then shift it into 2nd gear and not have to go to 4th.

My wife tried driving my Camaro once and the skip shift activated as she was crossing a major highway and she couldn't get it into 4th and went into a panic because of the cross traffic getting close really quick. She has since refused to drive the car....dang it...LOL

I had the skip shift eliminator installed....it works great! You'll still get the warning, but you'll be able to shift into 2nd with no problem. I'm glad I had it installed.

You can also give it less gas if the situation's wrong for giving it more. I usually just wait for the light to go away. It doesn't seem right using 4th in a parking lot. I should say I rarely ever see the 1-4 skip light though. I wonder if yours is malfunctioning.

I use it every once in a while. I actually used it this morning on the way to work rolling through a stop light with mild traffic. I shifted to 4th and the cars rpms dropped just above idle. The car sounded like a truck for about 2 seconds then proceeded to accel smoothly. I agree its Rtarded to use it in a parking lot because you might stall.

Paid $12.50 for one on Ebay. Can't remember which company. Works great. It's just a Packard connector with a resistor molded in that you plug into the harness after you disconnect the solenoid. Also comes with a blank connector to cover the solenoid terminals to make it weather tight.

Hey - did anyone notice that you can actually go to 3rd instead? In the event you're forced to do this under light load in slow moving traffic, I think 3rd at least doesn't lug the engine as much.

You are shifting to soon, Just ignore it get your RPM about 3000 and put it in 2nd. I use the RPM or the sound of the engine to shift.

The absolute easiest way is to train yourself to let the shift lever slide to the right into the neutral position. If you pull the the lever out of first it is spring loaded to center itself. Then just pull back to the left and down. Seriosly I never notice CAGS when I drive Camaros or Corvettes. And when you drive hard you can just pull straight down.
