So you're saying to use the recommended 87 and not something like 89 or 91 for V6's? Interesting.

NO.......The Camaro runs fine with 87, but timing gets pulled when knocking is sensed. Thus reducing HP.

When using the higher octane’s such as 93. No knocking is detected and thus the timing is not pulled. More HP.

I have been using Shell 93 octane with nitrogen. If I am travelling and can't find a Shell station I will use Mobil 93 or Sunoco 93. I would prefer to find a station that is Ethanol free but that is almost impossible to find. I know the gas mileage is cut down by a couple of MPG with this Ethanol crap added.

You beat me to it. I was going to say the same thing. When I was driving our 328i to and from work I had a noticable difference in Arco and Shell gas. Due to that I swore off Arco (AM/PM) and went 100% Shell and/or Chevron. I don't want to run crap gas through my Camaro as I intend on keeping this car and handing it down to my son but I don't want to go broke paying $0.20 - $0.40 a gal more if not needed.

Maybe it's overklill but nothing but the best for my V6, Shell 93! To me it's worth the extra $3-4 dollar per fill up. When I cannot find a Shell, I'll use another top tier 93 octane.

Broke? Lets assume you use 20 gallons of gas a week, in a year that is 1040 gallons (appoximatly 21K miles if getting 20avg). We'll go in the middle and say $.30 (per gallon), your only looking at $312.00 a year more for gas. 20(gallons)x52(weeks)x$.30(difference for better gas)= $312.00. I hope that is not enough to make anyone that owns a Camaro "broke"!

Stinkin' math and logic......

"Broke" was the wrong word but you get the point. When you fill up every 2 1/2 days it "feels" a lot worse paying $4 / gal vs. $3.70 (or less) / gal

$3.99 a gal for 91 at my nearest shell, I live about 15 miles from town and some hills, currently driving the V8 grocery go getter daily boy my pockets are feeling empty... but I guess its worth it if it runs good and makes the engine happy to have 91 than 87

I try to explain this to folks I know who will drive around town looking for the best price. Even when they do find the lowest price, the money they've saved by filling up there was used up on the extra gallon of gas it took them to drive around to find the best price.
Idiots. A few cents difference at the pump doesn't add up to much and if you're already driving a Camaro, you should probably be able to afford it.

thats what the internet is for and GPS it can find you the cheapest price thus no dirveing thus pure profit. I think onstar can do it too but then again you figure 300 a year for onstar equals the money saved in gas always screwed one way or the other

I don't fill up at any station unless it has a brand I recognize, and I never fill up at a station that does not have 'pay-at-the-pump.'
