Melted Diffuser......

I know this one of many posts like this but I wanted to share mine as well. I got my new 2011 2SS RS last month and had the dealer install the GMPP axel backs on it (LOVE the way it sounds BTW). A few hundred miles later and this is what my diffuser looked like. New diffuser and exhaust going on this week.......

Looks like the tips don't stick out far enough. They appear to be double walled so that shouldn't have been the problem.

They are to far to the left, not centered. You can easily see that is why it caused it to melt.

Too far to the left and too high. Whoever installed that exhaust didn't take the time to properly center that bad boy.

I am so glad I installed my catback myself. I took extra time to ensure the tips didn't touch anything but on the other hand you should be covered under warranty. Some dealers can be so dumb though.

They gave me a little friction at first but they couldn't argue with the fact that these are all GM parts, installed by the dealer, so I have no culpability in the failure. The new diffuser and exhaust are being installed this coming week.

Wow! Aren't they a piece of work to give you "friction" for something so obviously their bad! Says a lot about what we should expect when something a bit more inconclusive breaks and we ask for warranty repair

A lot of the issue for them was that I let them know that it was scewed up via a phone coversation. They wanted to see it but I was a state away. I had emailed a photo but they hadn't seen it yet. All in all, I am fine with the friction at first, due to the fact that they couldn't see it first hand, assuming it's corrected and good as new with no further issues.

This issue has appeared previously on a few cars and the common thread appears to be dealer installation, the tips should be sticking out a little further. The heat is not from the tip itself it is from the hot exhaust coming out of the tips.the problem is when the mufflers are slid all the back to where the exhaust was cut it causes the tips to sit too far back in the opening of the diffuser,I left an extra 1/2" of pipe from where the instructions said to cut it and it gave me planty of adjustment room, make sure your dealer has the tips sticking out further this and you will not have any future issues.
