Octane required

Sorry if this is answered somewhere, but did not find it.

The best I can find in central Iowa is 91 octane, supposedly ethanol free. Any issues with in comparison with 92 or 93 octane?

talking stock, no mods.

Thanks,

Mike

93 is better, all we have is 91 in Arizona but the car will run great on 91. It automatically adjusts to the octane level.

I know a lot of folks swear by 93, but in CA all we have is 91 and my car runs great. All I hear is how crappy the gas is here, and maybe because I live here it's all I know, but the car feels pretty damn quick to me. If I had access to 93 obviously I'd be all over it. If your question is about hurting the car I wouldn't give it a second thought. It says right in the book that 91 is fine.

93

I used to be able to get 93 in Nevada but they quit and now found it in Legrand. I just buy a 55 gallon barrel at a time and use a pump to get it into my car(and snowmobiles).

Your car will run fine on 91 octane. But if you check for knock retard you will find some timing is being pulled. It won't harm the engine, but it won't make it's max power either. May lose 25-50 horsepower depending on how much timing is getting pulled.

Also you say the best you can find is 91 ethanol free. If you can find 93 octane with ethanol that would still be better. Ethanol doesn't hurt. It raises octane. But ethanol added will get worse fuel economy.
I'd rather have the power and lose a couple MPG.

Actually 91 with ethanol is better than 91 no ethanol. I am datalogging with Ted right now and using 91 no ethanol Made me take out timing.

if you're beyond warranty a half quart of torch accelerator into 16 gallons of 91 octane unleaded gives 93 octane all day long...its what I use in Oklahoms to get 93 octane out of the 91 octane gas we have.

Why would you need to be beyond warranty?

I didn't know high octane gas was so hard to find in other states. Sunoco has 94Ultra here in Ohio. I guess not all Sunoco's in Ohio have the 94 but the one in my Columbus suburb does.

The irony here is that my car doesn't need it so I don't buy it.

I used to love in Colorado and Washington State, and you couldn't find 93 there. Here in Charlotte 93 is everywhere and the place across the street from my house has 100. Kind of afraid of the 100 though, and its about 6 bucks a gallon for some reason.
