should i get a v6 or a v8

Hey camaro5 i don't know what to get when i do get my camaro. I am a college student but i will be graduating or close to graduating when i get the car so payments should not be a problem, I am going to be a nurse, but i want to go on after i get my associates degree in nursing in may 11', but plan to get my bachelors degree after i graduate and the drive to the school i would transfer to is probably 30-45 minutes. I will be working as a nurse while going to school and the drive to the hospital from my house is another 15-20minutes so i guess what i am saying is should i go for the v6 and the gas mileage and wait for the z/28 or should i get the v8 when in 2011 and have the power and the speed and everything to show off. the v8 looks bigger and has the hood and everything and i feel people will eventually be like "yeah its a camaro but it's just a v6 " and i am coming from a slow granny car so i dont know what 300hp feels like or if it could stay caught up with the mustang gt/s on the road or the challenger r/ts but idk i just dont know... lol.

Well if there's any doubt or regret that you MIGHT feel by getting a v6, then don't. The 300 hp is more than enough and you'll get where you want to go quickly enough legally. If you want to keep up with the other cars and are worried about performance like that, I would definitely wait and get the v8 instead.

Here's some quick napkin math

Average driver puts 12k miles a year according to my insurance. The v8 is 5 mpg less than the v6.

12000 miles
413.79 gallons of gas getting 29 mpg with the v6
500 gallons of gas getting 24 mpg with the v8

So 86 gallons at $3.00 per gallon (current price that I paid an hour ago) is just under 250 bucks savings with the v6 over the v8 per year. Affording gas isn't really an argument to get the smaller engine.

How many V8's are going to get 24mpg? I mean I don't think too many will baby them if they have them. Just saying that may be a little high but I'm not sure.

Totally personal decision. I got the V6 and had second thoughts the whole time as I waited for delivery. But now that i have the car, I can tell you it is plenty snappy. I also have a 2004 Monte Carlo Intimidator SS supercharged that this Camaro can bury. The ONLY regret I have is the reaction i get when people hear that i ordered the v6. It is my daily driver and I drive 100 miles round trip to work.

If it's your daily driver you would probaly want the V6. I have a 2SSRS M6, however I only drive it on sunny days. It is like a rocketship and a go-kart rolled into 1. LOVE IT!

another thing you need to consider is this........... do you plan to keep the camaro your entire life and have it be a project car in the future? Or when its 10 years old do you plan to trade it in?

id say if its going to be your daily driver for a few years go with the v-6 because if you want a z/28 or something in the future the v-6 will be a valuable trade in car.

why beat up the v-8 as a daily driver? yanno?
