I can only speak from my experience, I did not exactly feel welcome when I first got here. You mentioned I should PM people. I don't think the average C5 user would feel comfortable PMing people, vendors yes, people no. When I first got here there is no way in hell I would PM people I didn't know, and in some cases that were rude to me. But I got it, I was the new guy.
Outside C5 I am a very respected business man. This current business model is set up to be a one and done model. Come in, get info and leave. In the business world that's a doomed model. You need people to stay. The lounge would be the vehicle to keep members. That's why I mentioned 3 lounges. Demographically "gear heads" are going to want to talk to other "gear heads"." Ultimately , somewhere along the line C5 is a business and the lounges are good for business. If there is no lounge I probably won't hang around for long, because once you get your info, what reason is there to hang around. And as far as business goes I am probably a very common and profitable demographic.
I think we are going to have respectfully agree to disagree.
I don't see the 'off topic' area as a basement, I see it as more of an area to develop friendships above & beyond the technicals of the car.

A good thread will BTT on it's own merit without setting it apart for exclusive use.

As a business model I think it has done very well, google would agree.

How many V8 engine related posts? (legitimate problem/solution posts)
I'm not sure why don't you go count them?

The point is that the V8 lounge did the SAME thing as the help desk. GTA said that the help desk is a great idea. So people will have to look through that entire thread to get answers as well. The lounge and help desk are for stupid questions that people don't search for. Like "what headers should I get?" And "what CAI is the best?" Instead of people wasting space with those questions which have been answered thousands of times, they can pop in, ask, and leave. Complex issues that haven't been answered before deserve a thread.

Because he would be counting all freakin day! There are TONS of on-topic posts and TONS of good information in there.

Since when does info have to be contained in a perfectly titled thread/file/package to be useful? Google sure as hell doesn't work that way. It finds text in the thread body regardless of what it's titled. That thread was standing on its own merit. The only reason it collapsed is because it's primary contributors are pissed off about it being screwed with.

In reality... the mods appear to have backed off on their threat to heavily trim the help desk thread. I appreciate that. I hope we don't end up in this situation again.

After 100 posts, so far all I have is:

V8's ROCK
Fast6 is GREAT
Detroit got their @ss kicked
V8 or GO HOME
God bless our troops!

All it is, is a post whore thread with a V8 bias...

As far as the poll goes, I can already tell you who most of the folks are that voted to restore it, even if it is a private poll. If you want an un-biased (somewhat) poll, post it in off topic.

If we put it in the off topic, it would be in the wrong section

I think there may be some confusion between two different threads here... the help desk thread is a GREAT idea, as long as it stays on point....

..... the V8 Lounge thread, you can call a pig Rosie, but that don't make it smell pretty.

Admit it, you're just a bunch of post whores, you just haven't come to terms with it yet..... That's why I'm here, to help.

You're clueless. If we just wanted to post whore we wouldn't be complaining about this.

Nice 3% sample. Definitely some post whoring going on in there too. Skip to page 5 or so after everyone settled down.

I'm done trying to reason with you... NO ONE goes thru 3 pages of whoring to try & find information, and mods don't have time to run behind you cleaning up threads to try & make them useful. Even when they do, everyone bitches because their post was deleted.

Good luck with your quest.

I'm out.

I've never actually posted in the V8 Lounge and just now realized it's only been here barely over a month. The name itself screams chat room and doesn't seem to me that it would draw questions like a Help Desk would. Forgive me, as I'm probably missing something because the OP has changed and I've never read it.

I for one do like to see all the new people post "what is the best CAI" and then hear answers from everyone not just 5 or 6 in a lounge. Some of their crazy questions sometimes end up as the best threads and I hate slow that down. Can't tell you how many times I've rolled my eyes at a new thread and then posted in it 20 times.

It also helps to have individual threads for the search engine. Don't get me wrong, I like what you guys are doing in the lounge and the service you provide to members both in the lounge and other threads. This is what makes C5 tick. People learn to respect certain members advice and you guys have attained this type respect. I like to see it spread out among specific targeted subject threads instead of one place. Maybe use the V8 Lounge in Off Topic to discuss and alert your crew to threads that need answers.

I've never been a lounge person myself, despite what my post count says. I guess because I get sidetracked and end up moving around many different threads. If I do end up chatting in a lounge I miss a lot of stuff in other threads.
