Thumbs up GM nears completion of twin-turbo V6 (LF3) to combat Ford’s new EcoBoost engine

As reported on Homepage.

Per http://www.caradvice.com.au & http://www.gminsidenews.com
Quote:
A report from the US this afternoon says General Motors is close to completing a new, twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine to combat Ford’s recently announced 3.5-litre EcoBoost unit, also twin-turbocharged.

According to a report from GM Inside News, several engineers at General Motors have confirmed the engine is in its later stages of development. The engine has been assigned the PRO code ‘LF3′ (GM’s naturally-aspirated 3.0-litre V6 has the PRO code ‘LF1′ – as pictured).

Although power and torque specifications have not yet been released, sources within the company say GM’s new twin-turbo V6 will produce similar figures to Ford’s 272kW offering – recently unveiled as the powerplant in Ford’s new Taurus-based Police Interceptor.

The report also said the new engine could find its way in to production cars as early as next year, possibly under the bonnet of the new Cadillac XTS.
Might we see this new twin turbo V6 engine in the V6 Camaro sometime in the near future?! We hope so!

Why feel that way? It's not like it's going to be in the 2011 camaro

That engine is only 3.0 L, so how much more power will it deliver compared to a NA 3.6?

I remember saying it would be awesome to see a TT V6 and many hated the sound of it being thought of... Well now it seems those who hated it now like the idea...? I just thought that was kinda funny, not tryin to call anyone out either. But in my opinion it would be cool to see it made but it shouldn't be ranked better than the SS cause it's just not the same class, exaclty what I keep telling these 4 cyl owners with 500 +. HP

I really don't understand the speculation about this engine in the V6 camaro. This engine would cost MORE than an LS3 or L99. As it is, the LLT is an expensive engine for this car. There is no way they will put a twin turbocharged V6 motor in a $23k camaro.

I think I read that this will deliver almost as much power as the LS3?.... I may be mistaken but I'm sure that's what I seen

That probably why they mentioned it going into the new Cadillac and not the Camaro.

Very interesting... Where does this position this engine in Camaro's line-up?...

If that is the case then, I am happy with my engine. I will add on a Turbo in a couple years and blow by the TT 3.0
