I don't need to use mine as a dd but the only thing that would stop me is rainy days with the Trofeo tires. If I were to use it in all conditions I would just change the tires to something a bit more conservative.

It's a track car, if you can't afford both a Z28 & a daily driver (SS, Prius, etc), then one should reconsider.

I'm curious - for those of you who have had your z/28 for a while now and have been using as a DD:
1. How are the tires holding up just doing street driving? 2. Did any of you swap your rims/tires out for something that doesn't wear as fast and won't be as $$ to replace? 3. If any of you previously had a SS - does the z/28 ride feel considerably more harsh? |

Here is a suggestion on tires and rims
The Corsa's work well on the Viper TA, 60-tread wear but a much better pattern and width to avoid aquaplaning. Still plenty of stick and a better ride being a 40-series tire Some reviews claim 10,000 to 15,000 mile tread life the TSW rims I have found to be strong and reliable |

1800 mile road trip and my stock tires have 3/32 tread at the inner most (deepest) tread area. The outer tread measures 2/32. All tires measured the same. Honestly they didn't wear all that much.

2 - just about to swap the Trofeos to a set of Contis for daily use, Trofeos for the track 3 - Had a 2012 45th SS and I think the Z/28 is a far better ride, too much roll in the SS IMO |

I don't daily drive mine, mainly cause its usually blocked in the garage. BUT I would in a heart beat, I changed the tires for a set of Michelin PSS, they dont have as much grip as the Trofeo's but should last much much longer. I went with a set of OEM wheels as they were significantly cheaper than any aftermarket setup I could find that I liked.
The car does ride pretty firm, but it's no worse than driving any other performance car or HD truck. Driveways can be a little tricky if your not careful with the approach, and the car will pull tires off the ground on certain approaches or transitions on the street which makes it fun. As long as you have something to drive in the snow seeing your from Colorado I wouldn't hesitate as long as you know your going to be driving a very high performance vehicle. |

~2K street miles on mine and they look & feel great (unable to measure them at the moment). I like the way they drive though stay out of the rain. Michelin PSS are great tires for street driving. Have them on other cars and they do very well all round. Like zcarczar I'd have them on the Z/28 if i was going to be using it in the wet / on harsher roads. I also went with spare OE rims - Trofeo's or Hoosiers for the track.

I'm not a Z/28 owner but I have read before that the 7.0 has seen more trouble being a daily driver than the 6.2 or 6.3. That being said, I think that if you're not tracking it too much then driving it daily should be no problem.

I'm still a RE11 fan. We have guys autoxing them that are getting 20k miles. They are great in the rain, ride well and have very good grip. There are some tires that can beat their grip by .02 g but there aren't any that are as good all around.
