Zl1 Brake pads

Has anyone installed any ceramic brake pads on the ZL1? Hawk performance makes the pads listed below, I was wondering if there is any drop in performance in braking both street and track? It would be nice to eliminate most of the dust yet maintain performance.
  • Hawk Performance Ceramic Front Brake Pads (HB649Z.605)
  • Hawk Performance Ceramic Rear Brake Pads (HB194Z.570)

I've found through the years you can't have both. Performance comes with dust, unless you can afford a full carbon system.

Hawk is claiming better than OEM.

Ceramic is fine if you are worrying about dust but the performance on the track will suffer. You should stick with the stockers or use a Hawk pad that is more performance oriented. On the street, ceramic will be fine but don't go to the road course with them.

The ceramics will be fine on the street, but I would never use them on the track. At the very least, I would suggest going with the HPS's.

Please feel free to call, PM or email me anytime with questions.

Best regards,

Here is what they say about them.

Hawk Performance introduces a unique ceramic composite formulation specifically developed to meet the ultra-low dust and low noise attributes of Original Equipment ceramic brake pads while maintaining the high friction levels professional brake tuners have grown to expect from Hawk Performance. Hawk Performance Ceramic Brake Pads do not compromise performance and offer a solution to many consumers' number one complaint: DUST! Performance Ceramic Brake Pads also feature a fade resistant, linear friction profile that allows your ABS brake system to work more effectively.
Hawk Performance Ceramic Brake Pads — Quiet, Clean, Safe and Fast Stopping.
Key Features & Benefits of Hawk Performance Ceramic Brake Pads
  • Ultra-low dust
  • Improved braking over O.E.
  • Stable friction output
  • Extremely quiet
  • Extended pad life
  • Increased rotor life
Brake pads are wear items and as such, should be inspected regularly and replaced as necessary. Pads should be replaced when approximately 1/8th inch of friction material remains on the steel backing plate.

I put the Hawk Ceramics on mine a couple of weeks ago and have not noticed any difference in performance.

I have noticed a huge decrease in the amount of dust though thankfully!!

...Hawk may be claiming they are better than OEM, but I doubt it. My doubts were confirmed by posts from a few members that installed them and stated "performance was almost as good as OEM". Now if you just ride on the street, "almost" as good as OEM may be good enough since these stock brakes are phenomenal on the ZL1; so less dust may be worth the slight performance sacrifice. But if you ride on the track alot, then you won't care about brake dust because the pads will give you better feel and more stopping power.

Thats what I was afraid of, I thought maybe technology might be catching up. You know like autos are now faster than manuals, who would have ever thought.

There is still Brake dust - but significantly less than OEM and I'm happy with the change
