Very interesting stuff. Guess I'll have to look really hard for a used one.

I don't know the answer to your specific question but, FYI, if it was your parents that were in the states, they could gift it to you without issue. Last I knew, EACH parent could gift EACH child over $20k with no tax stipulations on it.

When the $$$ flow was the other way ....dealers in Abbotsford were having customers sign a document saying the vehicle would not be re sold for at least 6 months. That covered their ass with GM. Won't stand up in court but it covered their ass as so many cars were going south , bought on 70 cents on the dollar.

There is some misinformation here...you can import on MSO...Canada Customs doesn't care. It is GM that states it must be used and that is for warranty purposes only. Warranty is not applicable in Canada until the car has 12,000 km AND is 6 months old. Some US brokers are buying brand new GM cars and selling them on MSO to Canadians. I have two local friends who just did this in September and I am considering it myself if the dollar gets just a little stronger. Broker fee is $750.

So you're saying I can buy a brand new car and bring it up, but GM won't warranty it until 12,000 KM? On the websites I read it was 6000 KM, but regardless the interesting point is the buying a brand new car...

It's 7,200 miles or 12,000 km...which is typically 6 months "average" use for leasing etc...

That's true... Canada Customs and RIV do not care about a MSO.

But it is a lot easier to find a USA dealer WILLING to sell into CANADA if the car is not on a MSO.

The penalties to the dealer who sells knowing it is exported are servere. Drive onto a lot with a BC plate in Wash, Oregon, Nevada or California and they will stop talking to you when they find out you are looking for NEW.

Miles and KM are the problem here. Yes the dealer will tell you he can do no Warranty work until 12.000 KM or 6 months.

Given the USA dealers have been hosing their customers with 3 to 5 over MSRP you may do better with the MSRP here and some incentives. I got 2700 off mine.
Next year it may be different as the buzz wears off on CAMARO.

You will not find many dealers (if any) that will sell you a car on an open MSO. If you buy a brand new car that is on MSO they will only provide it to you completed - they are not allowed by GM to give you a blank MSO.
