Is there downside to running straight headers?
I'm interested in keeping my NPP but adding NoWeeds for those times when I want to have a little fun. As the car is tuned for headers and intake, I'm not sure if there are any mechanical concerns should I add the NoWeeds and run it hard while they're open. There are a lot of smart people here I'm hoping might be able to help me understand what the consequences will be should I add them. Thanks in advance.

Not sure what you consider a mechanical concern but the tune will be off, I would definitely have that adjusted. More airflow = more fuel.

By mechanical I mean not like the first dude stated about it being loud. I wanted to reply "no $hit". So, I modified my post.
I'll just contact my tuner and ask him what his thoughts are and perhaps do some data recording for him once I get them on, assuming he says there are no issues.

There is less back pressure so you would possibly lose some low end to mid range horsepower and probably gain on the high-end.

That's cool, I'm not really too worried about gaining or losing time/power. But more worried about damaging the engine. How much can the ECU adjust for less back pressure and easier flow? Will this cause a lean situation? Don't want that, rich is ok, I can buy more gas, haha.

No worries here, and if someone were considering putting on a set of NoWeeds and didn't realize how loud they would be when open, then I guess they are the fool for not realizing it.

One of the absolute worst myths out there that needs to stop being regurgitated. The only detrimental thing that can be done after the headers is utilizing a too restrictive catback. This "loss of back pressure" crap needs to go away as it's 100% complete bullshit. |

I've been running the PFADT Headers without cats and with Noweeds for years now with no issues. I still have the NPP on as well. Just have the ECU tuned for it. I won an exhaust contest on my first try with that setup. Will be about 112-113 decibels with cutouts open. I close the Noweeds when I go to the road courses because I setoff their meters.
