race wheels
I'm looking for a set of 18" wheels that will fit the 2012 SS for auto-X events does anyone have any ideas or know of wheels that are lightweight and still decently priced

I think American Racing and Forgeline only because I see them often at tracks and track car builds.

I am thinking of Forgestar for 18x10 or 18x11 setup. Close to 21lbs and use NItto NT05s 285-35-18 or 295-35-18. Around 50lbs per corner. Don't worry about the wide tires on the front, these cars love wide tires and won't have any issue in wet or rain either.

TSW makes some pretty decent 18" rotary forged wheels that are lightweight and fairly inexpensive (less than Forgestars). Look up the TSW Nurburgring and/or Interlagos.

The VMR BMW wheels share the same bolt pattern, just need to run hub rings and change the front pads.
Here are 19's with R6s mounted on them on my 2010 SS.
