Yeah man, don't bother with it. Besides, even if the car does oxidize; if you have your warranty, it's their problem, not yours. :P

Either way, enjoy the car man! You've had it loooong coming.

I'll tell you what, when I told him to scratch the undercoating he said something about kevlar coating on the paint or something like that. to shine it up real good. The only kevlar I ever knew was our flack-jackets and helmets in the Army. I said NO thank you, I'll wax the car myself.

POR 15 the problem with it is if you don't use the spray primer. It tends to chip after a couple years. So I have kinda blown it off because the Hammerite does not flake or chip.

I also say no to undercoating. Years ago (15-20), there was a big undercoating business in this area. (New England) The product names were Z-Bart (oil based material) and later "Rusty Jones" which was a paraffin based product. All the dealers provided it, and you could get it privately as well. I think it helped a bit, but there were other problems such as the undercoating getting into the door locks and so forth. They used to drill holes all over the place and squirt it inside of the panels, and then pop in little plugs.

Another problem was that it would block the passages and holes that are designed to drain water. For example, most car doors have small holes at the bottom so that any water that gets by the window can drain out. Block those holes and the water just sits in there.

Well, in the last 10 years or so, I don't think you can find anyone who does undercoating any more around here. Apparently it either does not work, or the cars don't need it. If you drive your car in the winter around here, it's gonna rust, no matter what.

irpq11...seems like your dealer is working all the angles (to get in your pocket)...now you need to worry about the Document Fee he is going hit you with...there is a good thread here with #'s from zero $ to $299. Be informed, be aware and be ready. Good Luck.

Wow...Rusty Jones...that's a name I haven't heard in YEARS! My grandfather's car had it...and they put a sticker on his window of "Rusty." He wore a plaid shirt...had red hair and matching red mustache.

EDIT: Ok, I was wrong about the plaid shirt...but I did find the picture of the sticker

Say no to undercoating. And go get your beauty and drive away quickly. Very quickly.

Acceptable to me. Remember, I ordered the 21" wheels. Anyway, this price is lock stock and barrel. After tax-tag-and everything. The only thing is the 'Undercoat'. 600.00 for the undercoat. I've heard and been told not to do it that it voids the factory warranty.

Should I let them undercoat or not? . Thanx in advance.
GM states these cars are already designed not to rust, and are warranted against rusting or rusting through. If you want it wait a few years. At this point it is just wasted money.

Thanks for all the input guys.

The question was actually will the dealer udercoat void the warranty if they put it on. But I'm calling right now to cancel it. Talked to Scott Sherman too. He agrees with you guys.
GOOD! DO NOT DO IT!

I could possibly understand if you lived in Chicago or something. But down there?...nope. The underside of the car will last forever, man.
