BAD ZL1 tearing it up at Firebird Raceway, Mondo track
Here is video of me tearing up the track at Firebird Raceway, Phoenix, Az. Mondo track. The only time i got passed was by a Ferrari, and I ended up passing him for the win. There were Corvettes, Porsches, Camaros, ZL1s, BMWs, Ferraris. I took them all. In the Novice class. I got much love from the Corvette Z06 guys. One of them from the Corvettte club let me use his Go pro cameras to record it. Thank you very much Victor, I appreciate it a lot. I included the second video, it is mounted on my wifes bone stock ZL1, it shows the cars the pass her, that never catch me because she started out right behind me. Pretty cool.

I just tried to post some pics in my thread. Still trying to figure out how to get them to post directly into the thread, but in the meantime, the links are in there. Feel free to check them out in my newly created photobucket.
Very cool to meet you out there. Rare chance to get 3 ZL1s pictured together at a track event. Hopefully there will be many more in the future. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=254272 |

The last race we did on Sunday i started out in 7th position and overtook and beat a 2013 GT 500 for a second place behind a Z06 corvette.

Very Nice...
That track has some long straights. You had to be close or over 140 at the end of the 1/4 mile stretch as it's got a pretty long runway after. |

You have to have track experience and complete faith in your brakes coming down the end of the straightaway to run to the first braking marker (at 400'), as the right hand turn is actually a tight 110* turn onto the Bondurant track. The experienced stock C6 Z06 guys with upgraded brake fluid and pads will generally run 145-150+ before jumping on the brakes...and believe me, it's a sphincter tightening experience every time we do it as there is a tire barrier at the end. I'll post up a video of one of my Corvette friends with a supercharged vert coming down from speed at the turn. Glad to have seen 3 ZL1's out there on Saturday, and glad I had some GoPro's so Everett and his wife could have video memories of their first track event

I still need to drop alot of my track time to be good, but better to be in control. I spun out one time on Sunday morning, spun around twice, no one was around me but that is not what you want to do. All in all it was alot of fun.

Here's a view of a straightaway drag between Godsplumber, Sunset, and a 2012 (?) GT500

...and, here's a clip of my friend's C6 vert coming down from 150+ to make the 110* degree turn onto the Bondurant track.

No doubt there's some pucker factor braking before that turn.
Thanks for posting up the vids... |
