Calling Shorty Header Owners

I think there are a lot of people like myself who are interested in adding Shorty headers but are skeptical of some of the claims of 25+ HP gains by manufacturers.

Many of us are looking to add some mods that will not void our warranties, due to having to get a tune, or cause us issues with emissions and I think it would be a huge help to a lot of people if you could post what type of shorty headers you put on and what numbers you got by adding them.

Thanks!

I asked my local dealer about this. They said aslong as you leave your cats there the warranty is still good.

Shorties in theory wont void your warranty because they are direct replacement for your stock headers and bolt up accordingly HOWEVER if GM felt like saying the headers caused whatever happened to break on your truck and attempted to give proof as to why, they may deny warranty but this would be pretty unlikely IMO.

And x2 am curious to see because Doug Thorley is reporting close to 22+ HP and 35+ TQ with theirs and JBA I believe said 18+ HP with their set. Post some dyno pulls if yah gott'm.

I would personally go with the Doug Thorley set. Unless it can be proven that the mod caused the part to break, should have no issues with warranty. Any dealer who states differently is wrong. If you encounter one go to another dealer.

If you're going with shorties because of smog, make sure you get exemption numbers, otherwise it's a waste. Go LTs if you can.

Im not too worried about emissions, I am more worried about voiding my warranty due to tuning the car. If it wasnt for that I would get LTs and a tune tomorrow.

I just dont wanna waste money on shorty headers if I am not going to get more then a 5 HP gain. With LTs, CAI and a tune seems like people are getting 40-60 HP. I am wondering if I can get 20-30 with a CAI and shorty headers?

As I posted earlier, Doug Thorley and JBA are both posting close to +20 RWHP gains and around +30-35 RWTQ. They have dyno sheets on their websites.

I saw those, as I posted originally I was just hoping for some independent results as apposed to those posted by the people trying to sell the product.

I have read a bunch of posts with varying opinions on the performance of shorty headers but I have yet to find any one who has actually posted before and after dyno numbers.

Understood and I agree that I've yet to hear from anyone as well who had done shorties...at least on the V8 model

I have DT shorties but never got it dyno'd, don't really care to at this point. I can tell you that there was a noticable difference in low/mid range torque just by seat of pants feel! On top of that I think they really look great! Open the hood and people can see you have headers, I get good comments from everyone! I too was only worried about warranty and not emissions. You'll probably pay mid $500's for shorties and only a little more for lower end long tubes but the question remains....to tune or not to tune!
