This might be the most discussed, dissected car ever.

My previous track car was a highly modified MINI Cooper S on Toyo R1 shaved tires and I considered it a "momentum car" due to 200hp pushing 2700 lbs. I beat a lot of cars with way more HP due to it's cornering ability and great brakes. My Camaro in it's current state is way faster overall but the MINI would still beat it in some of the really tight corners. That said, the Camaro is easier to drive fast and still has a ton of potential that I haven't tapped into yet. More seat time is required, can't wait! I would love to have a Z/28 but it's way too much money for me. It still is the ultimate Camaro, thanks GM.

However the Z/28's way around a track shows it to be a momentum car not a point-and-shoot...albeit more powerful than the typical Miata or Mini.

So what's faster? A Z/28 or a 1LE?

I don't think the Viper has been "point and shoot" since perhaps before the 2002 ACR. Before that the brakes were the weak point but it was still very quick around a road course.

If the Z/28 driver weighs about 800 pounds, the 1LE (with Randy Pobst driving) will whip the daylights out of it on a road course...

Two of us were thrashing the Z/28 around Thunderhill, over two days, and the high temps ranged from 102 to 106 degrees. No worries; I think operator error is to blame for the quote you posted...

1. Oil Temperature Gauge info from the owners manual:
"If the gauge pointer moves to the higher end of the gauge, the engine oil temperature is operating hotter than normal. It is acceptable if this happens during aggressive driving or race track usage. The DIC will display a warning message if the engine oil temperature exceeds an acceptable level." 2. Car is warrented for track usage. Any more questions?
