I laughed my a$$ off when my wife bought those things last month BEFORE I got my car... She just had to have them because she saw an add somewhere or maybe she has a thing for the ShamWow dude. Anyway... I'm now using the crap out of them on my car. ShamWow in one hand and polishing towel in the other. Works like a champ... I still can't stand that ShamWow joker... |

Mr. Clean has a car wash kit that has water filters; it also has separate wash/rinse modes. Works OK, don't believe the hype though. It says "no need to dry," riiggghhht. But the rinse mode (which filters the water) does help spotting.

I didn't go through all the replies, but you have to first pre rinse the chamois in warm to hot soapy water for about 3 minutes.
First get the chamois wet, then agitate in soapy water, then rinse. There is oil in the chamois, thus the streaks.

I have never "pre-rinsed" a chamois in soapy water....no need....just regular straight out of the hose water.....get it very wet, then wring it out and use. And contrary to many beliefs, you can just toss a chamois in the washer and clean it up....works great.
As for car washes....touchless ones are okay, but, beware, the pressure from the sprayers may push water in around the window seals or the sunroof (if so equipped). The biggest things to remember when washing your car -Surface temp....if the car is sitting in the sun, make sure to rinse it off with cold water long enough to drop the temp of the car and work in sections. -Wash mitt....rinse it out....get any grit that you may pick up along way out of the mitt. -Don't let soapy water dry on the car....it's harder to get it off.... -If water does dry on the car and you catch it quickly enough, just use your damp chamois to wipe off the spots...next, some detailer spray, or even a small "spot wax" will work. -The post that mentioned a "last rinse" with "free flowing" water....good advice....it does work wonders -Finally....don't worry so much....almost everything you could do to your car while washing it can easily be fixed....I said almost....that doesn't mean you get to hit the car with the nozzle and just wipe it away....lol. After washing and drying it, get it in the shade/garage for any detail work you will be doing. |

An excerpt. http://www.chamois.co.nz/faq/#Howto "How to care for my Chamois ? Give it a good rinse in lukewarm water with a mild non-alkali soap, or mild detergent. Squeeze/wring Chamois to remove excess water. Gently stretch, and hang in area protected from direct sunlight and intense heat. Take care not to over dry".

Since you are in Dallas I would go see Steve from Tropi-care. He is literally the best detailer I have ever seen. (helps when you own your own car detailing supply line) and he is the ONLY person who touches my car besides me.
He can teach how to properly care for and maintain your vehicle and keep it line free(scratches) for as long as you own the vehicle. |
