Delete the CATs?

A friend of mine custom fabricates exhaust systems. He's quite good. Awesome sound! (aluminum/stainless or titanium).

In putting together a plan for my Camaro SS (LS3), I'm going with ARH 1 7/8" headers (as per Darin Morgan, thanks Darin!!). However... There is some debate on whether to delete the CATs altogether. My exhaust guy wants to delete them (ARH + X-pipe and mufflers). In Alberta the emissions standards are RARELY enforced, if ever. What will removing the CATs do to performance & emissions. Yes, I know the emissions will be worse, but will I end up with soot on the back of my SS? What about performance gains? Just curious. I've got a 6 weeks to go until my SS is in the shop having his exhaust hand fabricated (awesome!). I'm going to order ARH 1 7/8" headers (so I don't have to change them out down the road).

What are your thoughts on keeping the CATs, or just getting the headers minus CATs?

Thanks for your input!

at Fastlane Inc they told me that hi-flow cats do not make the car loss any power. MasterZ(cam also) does not have cats and i do, the difference is that his car smells just slightly richer at idle than mine. don't get me wrong mine has a smell to it at idle too, but once the cats warm up, its not as bad. now both our cars have cams in them, so that adds to the rich smell

hope this helps and good luck!
