Don't pay over sticker! Calling out anyone that works under the ZL1 program

Who is or is not paying over sticker and how much? This is the dealers discretion and why in the hell "legally" can they do this? GM sets a MSRP price and no one should have to pay over that. I put my deposit down in February AND there was no talk of market price sale or any amount over sticker. Now just off the top of the managers head he wants 10K over and tells me that I was told market price (BS) I was never told this and my salesman of 20 years tells him NO there was no talk of any over pricing. Now I have a deposit down on a car that legally they can't sell out from under me because of my deposit, (And because I'm not giving the car up!) so should I hold out to get that price down or just go ahead and order the car? I know some of you are willing to pay 5 or 10 over but I think this is just HIGHWAY ROBBERY. A lot of people payed over on the 2010 Camaro's, now look at how much they are upside down on a 2010. Something has to be done about this. Now if everyone were to tell GM that they are backing out "And I mean EVERYONE" do you think GM would step up to the plate and say to the dealers "Absolutely Not"??? I know dealers can charge whatever they want if they can get away with it but why should we pay that and why would you? I think GM should strip their business license or a whopping fine. Wasn't GM in financial trouble a few years back and had to take a buy out from WE TAX PAYERS? Come on General Motors do something about this! I call BULLSHIT!

Here is a solution for you, start shopping around. Find a dealership that will not do any mark up. Once you find them, go to your other dealership and pull your deposit. Then tell them why you're pulling out from them. Yes they will sell the car, but don't let them profit that much off of you.

As soon as you drive off the lot with the ZL-1 you just lost a lot of money. Don't lose more than you have to.

Or wait awhile for the market to calm down and just chill an let everyone else do something stupid.

I would not pay over msrp period.
When I ordered my car in April '09, the dealer said it was 2k over msrp.
I told him not for me, either msrp or no deal. I bought for msrp.
If the dealer is charging over msrp, walk. If everyone did this, they wouldn't be overcharging because no cars would be sold.

If you can't find a dealer at msrp, wait a few months until the intial excitement wears off, or buy next year.

The third dealer I stopped at back in 2008 to preorder my 2010 said no "market adjustment", put it in writing and honored it. He now has a customer for life. Bought my wife's Traverse from him the next year. I stopped going to the Chevy dealer I had been bought several cars from because they refused to honor MSRP.

Shop around, you will find a dealer that is fair.

You know it's really not the money part that pisses me off but the principle of it all. They may as well just hold a gun to my head. I know GM probably doesn't give a damn because they know the cars will sell but this is the kinda stuff that gives them a bad name, and believe me I am hardcore GM. But don't think for a second I will never buy GM again if something isn't done about this. I feel a case coming on!

I won't judge anyone for paying over MSRP for the car. It's none of my business how someone spends their money. That being said, I decided before I ordered mine that I would not pay more than MSRP. While it's a bad ass car, it's just a car. New autos are not a good investment even when you get them below MSRP. As soon as you drive off the lot it looses value. If you're paying over MSRP you're starting that much further in the hole. More importantly for me it would eat me up knowing I allowed myself to be taken advantage of by a greedy dealership because I didn't do everything I could to protect myself. That would take a lot of fun out of buying and driving the car.

I'm with armysig. Shop around, find one at MSRP (even if it's out of state), place your order and cancel the order with your existing dealership. Even if you have to pay a few hundred dollars to get it delivered to a dealership near you it's a heck of a lot cheaper than $10k over MSRP and a whole lot more satisfying every time you drive past that dealership.

My .02. Good luck either way.

The thing about MSRP is what it stands for. Manufacturer's SUGGESTED retail price. It's what they SUGGEST, not what the dealer HAS to do.

That being said I still agree that it sucks when they mark them up, and they shouldn't do it. It's bad business.

So therefore you think dealers would go the other way on the price. And I also think this still doesn't give them the right to charge whatever.

You may want to do some research on this subject. GM can legally do nothing about gouging dealers.

What did your purchase agreement say as to how the vehicle would be priced?

If you have a deposit and a written purchase agreement, how could there now be a pricing dispute? If the pricing was left open, chalk it up to lesson learned and you'll know how to pre order the next new hot car that comes out.

GM has nothing to do with your price negotiations. If you think you have a contract dispute, contact the state's AG and BBB.

Unless the put it in writing they can sell it for whatever they want. Like it or not it is not against the law and GM can not stop them. Most dealers do this when a hot car comes along regardless of the make, remember the Prius? 5k over sticker. A freind was looking to purchase one till I pointed out the money he thought he was saving in gas was offset by the extra dollars. It would take him 7 years at current full prices to see any savings!! Needless to say he didn't by it. The way the economy is right now you will have no problem finding someone to sell a ZR1 at or below MSRP when they hit the showrooms. I got my GXP for 2k under MSRP then another 5500 off with rebates. It took me 2 months but in the end I found the deal I wanted and that was for a car with limited production due to Pontiac's demise...

It seems pretty damn simple. Don't buy from that dealer. Shop around for one that will be doing MSRP or lower. Either that or wait.

Crying about it won't solve anything and GM will do nothing about it.

The pricing had to have been left open.......orders were accepted before the pricing release which was yesterday.
