Camaro Problems - M6 Bucking bronco!
Wondering if anyone else out there has had similar issue.. i've got a rs/2ss M6. When cold, started bucking pretty good till it warmed up.. then when between 1500 and 2000 rpm, at a constant speed.. perhaps just a little on the pedal, the car had this jerking.. felt it on accel if in 6th. gear, starting around 1500 rpm and give just a little throttle.. I thought about the early threads on pulling the fuses for fuel table reset, etc.. but believe that was the A6 cars only.. but did it anyway.. no help. Brought it in to the dealer and they tell me it's a gear of some sort in the transmission! No parts available.. so they are dealing w/GM to try to get them. This didn't feel like a trans problem though.. more almost like a missing cyl, like a plug mis-firing kind of feel. Anyway, its' not right.. and the dealer has it. Thoughts anyone? Car only has 3K miles, cold air intake, skip shift elim. and Corsa cat back.

Not just the Camaro; I've had similar experiences with other manual cars.
I assume you kept depressing the accelerator and the bucking just got worse. The cure is to quickly shift into second and try to accelerate slowly and smoothly. I can not intentionally duplicate it at any given time but I have experienced it with the Camaro recently... it unnerved my daughter, but I used it as a 'teachable moment'. |

Heck, my A6 tends to buck a little bit when I start it and it idles for a few seconds before I throw it into R or D/S - but I just assumed this was normal.

Check your air filter/intake assembly and make sure everything is seated and clamps are tight & secure. Also check the MAF that it is tight and seated properly.

Was fine for 3K miles.. I know the feel of my car and it just isn't right.. maintaining constant speed is when it is most obvious.. even under light acceleration you can feel the bucking.. very faint, but i can feel it. Just curious though that they found some gear in the transmission that's bad.. willwait and see when I get it back.

ya know, called the dealer to see if my car was ready.. said it needed transmission gear or something.. then i get a call saying it's done! Turns out they had me confused with someone else w/a Vett w/the trans all apart. Bottom line, they agree my car does 'sputter' but there's nothing wrong, no updates needed.. their feeling is the LMR Cold air is causing MAF to mess up.. So i'm gonna put my stock back on and see if problem goes away.. I'll post the results!

i am no expert but if they said that to me i would think they are trying to document your cai causing a problem just incase somthing goes wrong down the road.

I've got this same problem. I thought the car just needed to warm up (after a few minutes it doesnt buck anymore). Maybe i should contact GM?

Your car isn't the only one that does this. My car is completely stock and it does this, but, only when the temp is around 50 degrees or lower. It only lasts for the first few blocks. With the warm weather now it doesn't do it at all.

my auto has done this for about 5 or 6 months now. Everytime I take it into the dealer and do a ride along she never acts up. So they don't think the problem exists :( . O well, its not that huge of an issue to me. Just an annoyance. |

The Car is just cold blooded because of the emissions tune. Get rid of the surging/bucking when it is cold, = don't pass emissions = NO CAMARO.
It is pretty much normal and I live with it. I find if I gear up and open the throttle a little more (LOAD THE MOTOR), it is a lot better. So I drive it 2 blocks that way. No big deal.

I have this issue only when the car is cold upon startup. The first shift I make into 2nd with what I would call a heavy foot, sometimes caused a bucking, which would stop if I shifted into 3rd . I would say that this happened about 15% of my hard starts. I do not have the issue at all other than what I just described.
I added a K&N CAI and the bucking stopped altogether for a month or two. Now I get the same issue maybe 2% of my cold, hard startups. I did tighten my connections on the CAI. I will check them again asap. IMO, I just let her warm up a little before I unleash the beast and it's no problem. You seem to have more of an issue, however. Good luck!

Mine did this a little bit on cold starts when I went into 2nd gear. It went away with the CAI though.

My guess would be the CAI. The better ones don't cause bucking. Some others cause bucking if the MAF is not reading accurately. Sometimes tuning can clean up the bucking. But really, a properly designed and validated CAI shouldn't cause the bucking or need tuning.
On the other hand, some do and do. |
