For the purposes of this thread I made no conditions. So I like all the answers so far and hence the problem of choosing, and wisely at that

I am on a budget right now. Things will open up for me in 6 months or so. But summer is coming and it is the season, and maybe allegedly I may have been bested by a 5.0 mustang claiming to be stock at the strip, and if that had happened maybe I'd be pissed off enough about it to want give myself a little oomph. You know, find my balls and put them in my sack.

But I left the thread open for interpretation because I was hoping people would bring paint, audio, protection and all that stuff too. Its fun to talk about.

I would get a Cat delete. I am not sure the laws in Alabama, but I know some people put straight pipes inside the cats to keep them looking OEM over HF cats. Then I would add something cosmetic on the outside such as new fog lights/running lights or hash marks. To keep it from looking stock.

Well if you want to drag and be consistent i would consider wheels and drag radials. Traction is your friend. It got me a good 1/2 sec in my SS being able to launch it harder. Then depending on what you buy, you should be able to afford a roto-fab.

If drag radials aren't in your scope, then Roto-fab, pulley and tune.

I see people with all sorts of different priorities. I don't race.
I've spent that much on tint, rust-proofing, sound-proofing and rock guards.
If I had another 1,500 I'd START on upgrading the Stereo.
Good luck.

I would say a pair of drag radials. My strip times bettered by over a second. Plus no worries about your warranty. I don't think I would have admitted to being beat by a stock 5.0 lol. Good luck with your balls!

I had a 5.0 that was supposedly stock take me last year to, I saw his hood open later and saw a big CAI, then a lap top on his passengers seat that was plugged into the car lol. If I were you I'd spend the money on a roto fab CAI and a set of either nitto nt05R drag radials or Mickey thompsons. The biggest problem I had last year was traction. The mustang doesn't make near the torque the ZL1 does. The drag radials and CAI should get you into the low low 12's, i've never seen times that low for a 5.0, unless its supercharged. The tires would run you about 1150 ( that's what I paid for Nitto's) and the roto fab for 400 unless you get the carbon fibre look which is 550. Adding more power until you can harness the beast won't do you much good.

you can run low 12's on factory tires but i would go with the nitto555r's if you plan on doing alot of street driving. they are better in the rain than the nitto nt05r's. nto5r's absolutely suck in the rain. the nitto website is very informative with lots of pics too. i have noticed the handling has suffered a bit since i put on drag radials, that was one good thing about those goodyears is they do handle corners well.

I said he claimed to be stock, had it actually happened, because I didn't actually admit to it, it was by less than a 10th of a second. After I got online to look up 5.0 1/8th miles times, and yep, he was where he was supposed to be, allegedly.
