This is a bit old but had some intrest so I decided to update the thread. I have not had it run on a dyno yet but have not had any codes or
issues for almost a year. I did add a lid bc I had trouble matching the hood angle. I may add a plexi window too. It sounds amazing also.
The air temp studies are not exact data by any means, because of different driving temps and conditions. The stock box does a very good
job maintaining temps, it just flows like crap!
Here is the list of parts needed. I left out prices because they may change. Overall I was under $100.

#90L40 Rubber Elbow 4" ID X 90 Degree
#AL4X12 Aluminum Intake Tubing 4" OD X 12" Long, will need cut and polished.
#94100-0450 T-Bolt Clamp for 4" ID Black Rubber Intake Hoses 3

THE-14610 Heat shield backing mat.

McMaster-Carr or hardware store.
Edge seal, about 7 feet #12335A14

Paint is from, AutomotiveTouchup.com

K&N Filter # KNN-RF-1034

Misc hardware.
20 gauge sheet metal 24x36 Lid was made from Alu.
3/8 x 18" fuel or vacuum line
3/8 barb splice fitting.

CAI Air temp study. This also proves why a lid or good seal to the hood is important! After sitting for a long time the 100+ temp
under the hood can be sucked into the car.

this is what we did for my cousins caddy cts-v, if you read it , it lists the parts required and then has photo's to show you what we did! it sounds absolutely rediculous but looks just like a storebought one. they use crappy plastic or aluminum heatshields anyway, and this one truly fits tight to the hood. datalogging revealed that the intake air is alot cooler then with the stock airbox. don't laught, it works well and nobody can tell! heres the link

Ya, I built my own for my GTP and had no issues except envy for the supercharger sound. My only concern is companies say they design the tube to get the most horsepower. I say it is crap as long as your getting the most volume and coldest air possible. If it sounds like a straw then you could just increase the tube or filter size. Also I can do my own welding and polishing or cermic painting.
Anyone else see any issues here please inform me...

I did a DIY FWI on my 04 Monte Carlo SS. It was inexpensive and worked like a champ. I plan on doing something very similar to my Camaro. I just ordered 6ft of 4" ABS for $18. I'm going to use a trash can like in the write up for the heat shield. That shouldn't run more than $5. The filter runs $49. The fittings shouldn't run more than $10 so, that brings the total for a CAI to roughly $85. Once I get all the parts in and do this I'll take pics and post a write-up.

45 for the elbow, tube, seal, and clamps, 45 for the K&N filter. 7 for the metal and 20 for the reflective heat mat. So about $120 plus 7 hours labor, mostly getting the dam heat sheild to fit good.
