Overfilled by 0.28 quart

I mistakenly added 6.28 quarts of synthatic oil to my v6 instead of just 6 quarts. Should I be worried? :(

And if the extra 0.28 quart has to be removed, is there a way to do it with maybe a pump from the dipstick or filter without getting under the car?

did you check the oil level on the dipstick? Is it WAY over the full mark? If not, youre fine. YOu ever checked/changed oil before?

I'm not sure about this, but I think a quarter quart is about what the oil filter holds and may not be included in the change capacity. I'm just spitballing. Either way I wouldn't be worried.

Warm up the engine. Turn it off and let it sit for about 3 minutes. Check the dipstick. If it isn't foaming, then you're OK.

I don't trust our dipsticks because it's hard to get a consistent reading. But the level seems to be in the middle of the upper cross-hatched area. From looking at the little oil on the dipstick, it doesn't seem like the oil was foaming.

Your good to go oil changes are not an exact sience and six may have put you on the low side based on what you have stated.

How in the world did you calculate .28 qt over filled?
After it has been ran, let it sit for an hour or so and check the oil. As long as it isn't above the bulged section of the dipstick, you should be fine.

I wouldn't worry. 0.28 quarts is not that much. Dealerships usually overfill them by a lot more when they do it.

just make sure on the dipstick that you are not way overfilled. Overfilling (WAY OVERFILLING) is just as bad as not running any oil at all... You could have the connecting rods slapping into the oil etc if the level is too high and this can cause catestrophic failure (NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY). (I am assumning you got one of those 5.28 Quart jugs and then just added a quart?) If so you are more than likey okay, but double check anyway...

Yup, I got a jug from Autozone and didn't notice that while Walmart sells 5 Quart jugs of Valvoline SynPower, Autozone carries 5 Liter jugs, which is equal to 5.28 Quarts.
