I'd actually be embarrassed if i had to call AAA/road side assistance just for a flat tire! They do offer the option to have a spare tire/wheel put in the trunk for an extra $150 or so, but if I will no be able to put the tire on myself I do not see the point in having it at all. So instead I guess they provide a patching kid. The problem is that if you end up damaging your tire severely enough then that "patch kit" won't help at all. I'd love to hear what other Camaro drivers have to say about this and if there is a way to change a flat tire yourself and to bypass the problem? And if there is not a way to bypass the problem then what other solutions are there?

The main thing (that most people don't realize) with the idea of a spare tire for the SS is lug nut torque. Let's say you get a flat and need to change the tire, our 20" wheels are torqued to 140 lbs/ft (basically a lot a lot). Now, to explain the importance of lug nut torque: imagine you're building a tree house for you kid, it's getting late and you cut corners by not putting braces underneath the floor. You figure "he's a little kid, it'll be fine". You're gambling your kids life because you "think" it'll be OK. If you don't torque your lug nuts to spec you risk having the wheel come off while driving (I imagine most people are getting a pretty gruesome mental image right now).

So that being said, to put on a spare tire on the SS you would need to have a torque wrench in the car with you. Specifically a torque wrench that goes up to 140 lbs/ft. I have one that goes to 200 (WAY more than I'll ever need but it was my only option), and that thing is about 3 feet long and weighs at least 5 pounds. Not very travel friendly.

Regarding the need to have a huge torque wrench... I actually would not even bother because i am only planning to swap the tire and drive on it long enough to get the other tire repaired at the service station and then i'll just have them put the original tire back on and tighten the hell out of it with their giant torque wrench.

So now I need to find the best place to buy the full size tire and rim as well as the jack and reasonable wrench/Iron. Any suggestions??

I was told by the service department that I may be able to get away with getting a 19inch rim and tire even though i have all 20inch tires on my 2SS now.... since its just temporary anyway. What do you think about that? I figured it would be a bit smaller and easier to fit in the trunk as well(slightly anyway).

Again it's your car its your life. I personally wouldn't risk the "short" drive to a service station with only hand tightened lug nuts. You *can* get away with a 19" wheel, but I wouldn't recommend it. If you send a PM to SUX2BU he can tell you his set up. I believe he got a complete spare tire kit for his SS for around $180 ish.

Well that depends. Does the LT come with the 18" heritage wheels or the 19" wheels? Because I wouldn't recommend running different size tires. If your LT has the RS package then you have 20" midnight silver wheels. I'd HIGHLY suggest NOT putting a 18" wheel on when the other tires are 20"

Full sized front tire & wheel fits in the trunk. This plus AAA on a trip and your all set.

Lot of mis info here....

First see this for spare:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106681

And you can torque down a tire, sufficient for safe driving, with the tire iron. The 140 lbs has been beaten to death on this site.

No need to sit in a bad area ( of course you can carry in your car/truck in Texas but would rather not have to use such if at all possible) waiting for mom or aaa or onshit or as posted above sitting is a bad area with no phone service...man up, get a spare and change it or just depend on phone if you have time and service..what ever! ...carry an electric impact wrench if you think you need such.

Oh and teach your wife/girl friend or wives/girl friend teach you husband/boy friend how to change a tire...:-)
