Boost controller or no boost controller???
Simple question, yes or no for an 1100 rwhp street car that will see the occasional road course and spirited back road driving in north Tx. Will be twin turbo running PTE6766s at 20-22 psi and about 1100rwhp
Been looking at the Eboost 2 for simplicity but am eyeing the AMS-1000 since it seems to be a great unit with more features than i will probably use. But its nice knowing those features are there if needed. So, yes or no on boost controller. I always thought the right foot was a pretty good boost controller

Be crazy not to have one. No sense in going turbo if you're not gonna use one. That's won of the perks of a turbo setup.

Heck yes. It would be great for dialing in or out of boost.
Heck I am thinking of throwing on a waste gate and boost controller on my D1sc set up

Installed mine a few days ago. Haven't had a chance to play with it yet. Hoping I hooked everything up properly.

On my D1SC wastegate, I won a True Street index with three runs averaged to within 0.007 of my target.
So, any type of dial-in, it really helps. Not to mention, with your setup, you might want to have presets for "Sane" and "Insane". Padre |

Without the boost controller, you know where you're gonna stand in the power sense. You don't know how tame it'll be on the streets. With the boost controller you can dial the boost down to a more manageable level for every day driving. I would get it.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to have one. For some reason my shop is recommending against one, or saying it isn't necessary. If it makes the setup better than i think it is necessary
Now time to decide between Eboost 2 or AMS-1000 and get smart on the system

the nicer electronic ones can even help spool time. Tested this theory on my Turbo buick years ago. Ended up using a HKS EVC EZ. Spool time was way less that with a halman type or turbonetics type manual set controller.

My understanding is the minimum setting you can set your boost is your wastegate spring pressure. If you're wanting less boost then you have to change out those springs to lessor ones (nominal cost). You can then set your boost controller to a less boost value (only down the the spring pressure), and all the way up to your boost controller/turbos output boost capability. Gives you the range then.
I had to do that with my Tru-Boost controller to get a "wifey" mode in there.

Not quite like that. You can usually go ~2.5 spring pressure depending on system, etc. You can't put in 5psi springs then hope to hold 30psi with a boost controller. Typically I would go with the rule of 2x. Run 12psi springs and have good control up to 24psi. Run 7 to 14psi or so as a general rule of thumb. That is way conservative though. 7psi springs probably fine to 18-19psi.
