Wheel / tire combo question
Factory spec tires are 245/45/20 on 20x8s and 275/40/20 on 20x9s.
I don't foresee a problem with keeping the front tires stock (but on 20x8.5) and the rears 305/35/20 on a 20x10. I would think GM wouldn't have made the 20s so tight I couldn't play with a lousy inch. I guess my question is can I get a 305/35/20 on a 20x10 and still get it to fit without the rears sticking out too far? I really do hate that look,... And how noticeable will the different between 45 and 35 series tires?

Dont know about the 20x10's but should be able to get the 305's under it. The concept ls7 is sporting those tires in some of the pics floating around on here. The difference between the 35's and 45 will be noticable but not overly noticable...if that makes any since. The Ride will be a little rougher due to less sidewall flex but the performance and handling will be a little better.

How far it sticks out will depend on the offset of the wheel. With a 305/35/20 you will be looking at a tread width of 12" in opposed to 10.8" for stock. Also your tire diameter will be 28.4" with 305/35/20 and stock is 28.7". Personally given the right offset I would get a 315/35/20 on a 20x10.5, but we'll have to wait and see what the wheel well dimensions are going to be.

From what I saw at the auto show it looks like there is around of inch to play with on the street side. I don't expect there'd be a problem adding half an inch to an inch in backspacing also. I'm sure GM expected consumers to put some fatties on the rear so I find it hard to belive we'd be constrained to say 285's without modding the wheel well... no matter what you say headpunter!!! lol
One thing I'm seriously considering is widening my back wheels to 10.5" or 11" which should cost about $200 - $300/wheel, then powder coating them all black and slaping 305's or 315's on. OR... getting some C6 Z06 motor sport replicas (19x9.5 front, 20x11 rears).

One thing everyone needs to keep in mind is how a difference in tire size (wheel size) affects your speedo. Check it out -
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html For example, when I was deciding on what wheels I wanted for the rear, I knew I wanted something a little wider. I found a nice set of TSW Mondello wheels that run a 20x10. Knowing I could put a 295 through 315 (possibly 325) I wanted to make sure which ever tire I get stays within a low percentage from the original tire. I contacted Damon Witters from tirerack.com who said a 315/35 would fit a x10 wide wheel, but that size would ideally go on a x10.5 wheel. But what's a 1/2 inch? So comparing original tire size to something wider and ensuring I stay within a size that'll fit on a 20x10 wheel, I've concluded a 315/35/20 would fit! Of course then the price comes into play,...

The package we sell is 28.6" tall both front and rear.
I am not sure that tire rack has a front and rear setup that will have these same specs. We use the Nitto INVO tires. |
