Most people will probably say to take it in and have it done (powder coat). I'd love to see a tutorial on how to do it yourself and what's involved. I had asked about that and no one linked me to anything here.

You can do it yourself for about 30-40$, I just painted my LT rims I bought off here for winter black. I
ll post pics of you'd like.

Basically you just need to follow these simple steps.

1.) Clean the wheels off well
2.) Sand is with a light grit sandpaper
3.) Clean again to get the sanding particles and etc off
4.) Coat with One can of primer
5.) Dry and then coat with two cans of whatever color you'd like
6.) Apply one can of clear-coat.

And thats it...

I use Duplicolor Primer and two cans of wheel paint and one of wheel paint clear coat.

painted wheels don't look good for long, even the factory painted get chips and scratches, I advise powder coating for any longevity.....

Might be better off just buying a set of black replicas for $600-1,000 and selling the set you have currently for $2,500...

I'm sure there are some videos on youtube or something but unless it's done right that paint will come off over time. Might want to look around on a good deal on some black rims.

You can buy a powder coat gun for $200, and do them in you oven. I've done that before with motorcycle wheels. I have an old oven in my garage/shop that I use just for that. But it is an old oven and not too big, couldnt get these rims in there. But they were only $300 for the sandblasting and powder coating.

I was quoted 140 a wheel to sand blast and powder coat. the guy told me anyone doing it cheaper probably is skimping somewhere in the process. 600 bones is alot of dough then figure mounting and balancing costs. im waiting till i need tires to do mine

Powder Coating is the way to go.

You have to take it easy on the lugnuts when putting the tires back on...no air wrenches.

This is a pretty big company here in Tulsa, with ALOT of buisness, and very good rep with us local people that do this stuff alot. I have 4 wheeler frames, mower decks, 20ft carhauler trailer, and thier stuff is quality...sounds like your guy might be a former used car salesman and tryin to milk ya...

as for lugs. Splined is the way to go. No scratches or torque worries.

+1. I have mine powder coated. They look amazing, and still do 8 months later. I paid less than $200 to have mine done.
