footwel lighting
I just bought a set of 4 at walmart for $12 basically 43.00 a light. They're blue, have double sided tape, plug into the lighter with a switch but can be hard wired. They're Chinese made and look good. Any one have any experience with these or similar from the auto parts store? I see others that sell for $60 a pair. Are they that much better at $30 a light?

I don't have any experience with those, I usually go on eBay and buy 5050 300 LED reels. You do have to solder the connectors onto the wire, but you can cut them pretty much to any length you want and 15ft of LEDs is a lot and the 5050 are the brightest.
I'm sure these Walmart ones will be fine for footwells, you can always cut the cigarette lighter piece off and splice the wires and hook them to power and ground and save your cigarette lighter spot for something else. |

I installed them one time, they work as good as any other set up, all you to do is wire them any way you want.

This is next up for me also. Do you have them hooked into the dome light somewhere? Or have them always on?

I used the strips from auto zone for my bike. They hold up Nicely I must say. I harded wired them tho. I have 24 inches (12 inches each side) right by the engine on my bike and rode for three hours straight on the interstate with them on and they are still going nice and strong.

You need a 3 prong switch, on off on. The red wire from the LED goes on the right or left of the switch, tap into the dome grey wire right above the gas pedal with a red wire and hook it up on the other prong of the switch. So , right now u should have , on the left prong of switch the red of footwell light , nothing in the middle and the domelight wire on the right. Tap into the cigarret lighter wire (red) run that wire to the left prong of switch (conected with the red footwell lighting wire) then put the switch where ever u want. I put mine right under the fuse box (inside box) . Right under the steering wheel. Oh and the black wire u need to ground it to the car. I'm not an expert with this kind of things but is not hard at all. It just takes time. I hope it makes sense. I'm writing this from my phone. I'm sure some guys here can help you out if I missed somethibg. Or have a better way to do this.

I just installed the AAC smd strips. I hooked it up to the traction control yellow wire and grounded them on the bolt at the front of the console, so it comes on with the lights. I cut the strips down to about 3" so I can mount them where the gm kit mounts. It looks good. Matches the doors and dash lighting. Probably going to put a switch in, so I can turn them off if I want.
I noticed that the LEDs are warm to the touch. Is that normal? I thought LEDs did not get hot. Sorry for the newbie question. |

LED's do get warm though they just won't get hot to the touch where it burns your hand like halogen bulbs.
